⚠️ UPDATED TRAFFIC ALERT – NM HIGHWAY 518 ⚠️

Good morning. Be advised that all other roadways and locations are back OPEN at this time.

🚧 New Mexico Highway 518 remains CLOSED in both directions between County Road A011 and the New Mexico Highway 94 intersection. This closure is along NM Highway 518 between Mile Posts 28 and 29, near the VFW, and remains in place due to an active investigation.

Everything north of Allsup’s is back OPEN at this time.

Motorists needing to bypass the closure may use:

* County Road A030 (El Alto Road)
* County Road A011

Please avoid the closed area, use caution, and follow all traffic-control directions.

We will provide another update when NM Highway 518 between Mile Posts 28 and 29 near the VFW has reopened. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

🚨 WILDFIRE ALERT – BEACON FIRE 🚨

The Beacon Fire is currently burning near the Turkey Mountains in Mora County.

🔥 Current Fire Information:

* Estimated Size: 100–150 acres
* Containment: 0%
* Resources: New Mexico State Forestry and cooperating agencies are actively engaged in suppression efforts.

⚠️ Smoke may be visible from:

* Interstate 25
* New Mexico Highway 442
* New Mexico Highway 161
* New Mexico Highway 120
* Surrounding communities

Please avoid the area to allow firefighters and emergency personnel to safely conduct fire suppression operations. Do not stop along roadways to view the fire, as this creates additional hazards for responders and the traveling public.

At this time, there are no evacuation orders in effect. If conditions change, the Mora County Sheriff’s Office will provide updates as they become available.

If you observe a new fire or suspicious activity, immediately contact Mora County Dispatch at (505) 425-6771, or dial 911 in the event of an emergency.

🚨 ACTIVE STRUCTURE FIRE – RAINSVILLE AREA 🚨

Emergency crews are currently on scene of an active structure fire in the Rainsville area.

Responding agencies include:
• Mora Volunteer Fire Department
• Rainsville Volunteer Fire Department
• Golondrinas Volunteer Fire Department
• Sierra Bonita Volunteer Fire Department
• Ocate Volunteer Fire Department
• Mora County Road Department
• Mora County Sheriff’s Office

Please avoid the area to allow firefighters and emergency personnel to safely perform their duties. If you see smoke coming from the Rainsville area, it is most likely associated with this incident.

If you observe any additional smoke or a separate fire in another location, please report it immediately to Mora County Dispatch at 505-425-6771, or call 911 if it is an emergency.

🔥 MORA COUNTY FIRE UPDATE – CERRO COLORADO FIRE 🔥

Date: August 4, 2026

The Cerro Colorado Fire in Mora County, located between NM Highway 434 and Coyote Road near Guadalupita, remains active.

Current Status:

• Cause: Lightning
• Estimated Size: Approximately 4.5 acres (subject to GPS confirmation)
• Terrain: Steep canyon with very difficult access
• Fuels: Brush, timber, and heavy dead/down vegetation
• No evacuations are in place at this time.
• No structures are currently threatened.

Firefighters worked through the night securing the fire’s edge. The fire remains within its current footprint but continues to burn in heavy timber and dead fuels.

Resources Assigned:

• New Mexico State Forestry crews
• U.S. Forest Service Type 6 Engine
• Rainsville Fire Department
• Sierra Bonita Fire Department
• Type 3 helicopter arriving this morning
• Type 1 helicopter has been ordered to assist with aerial water drops later today

Fire personnel will continue suppression efforts using chainsaws and helicopter bucket drops as weather and conditions allow.

Please avoid the area so emergency personnel can safely conduct firefighting operations.

If you see smoke or a new fire, immediately contact Mora County Dispatch at (505) 425-6771 or call 911 in an emergency.

🚨 FIRE ALERT – Cerro Colorado Fire (Mora County) 🚨

The Mora County Sheriff’s Office, Sierra Bonita Fire, Rainsville Fire, Guadalupita Fire, Mora Fire, New Mexico State Forestry, and other responding agencies are currently on scene of the Cerro Colorado Fire (Mora County).

The fire is currently estimated at approximately 4½ acres and growing, with heavy brush and Ponderosa pine burning at this time. It is located between New Mexico Highway 434 and New Mexico Highway 442 near (County road A021) Coyote Road.

🚁 New Mexico State Forestry has a helicopter en route to assist.

⚠️ Please avoid the area and allow emergency personnel to safely conduct fire suppression operations.

At this time, there are NO evacuations in place. If evacuation orders become necessary, we will provide updates immediately.

Smoke is visible in the area. If you see a new fire or suspicious smoke, please contact Dispatch at (505) 425-6771 or call 911 in an emergency.

🚨 ROAD HAZARD ADVISORY – NM Highway 94 🚨

Please be advised that New Mexico Highway 94, from NM Highway 105 to NM Highway 518 on the Mora side, has sustained significant storm damage and is covered with debris.

⚠️ Some areas along Highway 94 have been washed out. Debris in the roadway includes:
• Tires
• Logs
• Tree limbs
• Other storm-related debris

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) has been notified and is actively working to clear the roadway and assess the damage.

🚓 Mora County Sheriff’s Office deputies are currently patrolling the area. If you observe hazardous conditions or need to report an emergency or roadway issue, please contact Dispatch at (505) 425-6771.

❗ Please avoid traveling on NM Highway 94 if possible and use alternate routes until the roadway has been deemed safe. If you must travel in the area, use extreme caution and be alert for emergency personnel and changing road conditions.
