Exciting progress is underway for the Village of Moravia as work continues on the upgrade of our wastewater treatment plant.

This project represents an important investment in the future of our community and infrastructure. The upgraded facility will incorporate newer treatment technologies designed to improve efficiency, reliability, environmental protection, and long-term sustainability.

Modern systems and equipment will help the plant better manage wastewater treatment demands while supporting state environmental standards and reducing the risk of future operational issues. These improvements are designed not only to serve today’s needs, but also to help prepare the village for the future.

Infrastructure projects like this are not always highly visible day to day, but they play a critical role in protecting public health, supporting economic development, and maintaining the quality of life our residents expect.

Thank you to everyone involved in helping move this important project forward. We look forward to sharing additional updates as construction and improvements continue.

To me Moravia is special.
What makes Moravia special isn’t just one thing — it’s the combination of community, history, and small-town character that people still value today.

It’s the kind of place where:
neighbors recognize each other,
local businesses matter,
traditions are passed down through generation and people genuinely care about the future of the community.

Moravia has a strong sense of identity rooted in: its historic downtown, beautiful surrounding countryside, nearby lakes and outdoor recreation,
local events and traditions,
and the people who volunteer, serve, and help keep the community moving forward.

From the fairgrounds and community events to local parks, churches, schools, and small businesses, there’s a connection here that many larger communities have lost.

Moravia also has something increasingly rare — potential without losing its character. Residents want progress, but they also want to preserve the welcoming, close-knit feeling that makes the village feel like home.

The future of Moravia isn’t just about buildings or projects. It’s about continuing to build a community where families want to stay, businesses want to invest, and people feel proud to call home.

What do you think makes Moravia special?

What a great day for our community! Another successful Money Mania is in the books for the Moravia Fire Department.
Thank you to all the volunteers who worked hard behind the scenes to make today possible, and thank you to everyone who came out to support the department. Community events like this are what make small towns special.
Pictured are the officers who worked the event today.

As the Village Board works to maintain services, infrastructure, and long-term stability, many residents have asked where Village tax dollars are being spent and why the budget has increased over the past several years. Here is a general overview of the adopted 2026–2027 Village budget.

The Village’s combined budget for General Fund, Water Fund, and Sewer Fund operations totals approximately $2.85 million.

Where does the money go?

• Sewer operations and treatment – approximately 29%
• Water system operations – approximately 24%
• Streets, snow removal, and transportation – approximately 10%
• Police and public safety – approximately 10%
• Employee benefits and insurance – approximately 9.5%
• General government administration – approximately 8%
• Debt service, buildings, parks, recreation, and reserves make up the remainder.

More than half of the overall budget supports water and sewer infrastructure and operations. These systems require constant maintenance, testing, repairs, equipment upgrades, and compliance with state and federal regulations.

The Village tax rate history is as follows:

• 2024/2025 – $5.598 per thousand
• 2025/2026 – $6.757 per thousand
• 2026/2027 – $7.332 per thousand

The increase from 2025/2026 to 2026/2027 was approximately 8.5%.

Like communities across New York State, the Village continues to face rising costs related to:
• Infrastructure repairs and maintenance
• Health insurance and retirement contributions
• Fuel, salt, and utility costs
• Equipment and vehicle maintenance
• State mandates and regulatory compliance
• Public safety and operational expenses

While no one likes tax increases, the goal remains to balance fiscal responsibility with maintaining the essential services residents rely upon every day.

Thank you to everyone who takes an interest in understanding how Village government operates and how local tax dollars are used.

This year’s Village Trustee election brings something we do not always see in local government — more candidates running than there are seats available. With two openings and multiple individuals willing to step forward and serve, I believe that is actually a positive sign for our community.

Too often in small towns and villages, positions go uncontested simply because few people are willing to dedicate the time, energy, and responsibility that public service requires. When residents are engaged enough to run, ask questions, share ideas, and participate in the process, it reflects a community that cares deeply about its future.

Competitive elections are healthy. They encourage discussion, new perspectives, accountability, and thoughtful conversations about priorities for the village. Most importantly, they give residents a real opportunity to choose the direction they would like to see our community take moving forward.

No matter who people support, I hope everyone will take the time to learn about the candidates, ask questions, and most importantly — vote on June 16, 2026.

At the end of the day, we all share the same goal: a strong, vibrant, and welcoming Village of Moravia.

Despite the rain today, it was refreshing to look out and see the vibrant green returning to the trees. Just last week, I was in France, where flowers were already in full bloom. A visit to Monet's Garden was absolutely breathtaking. Now I find myself eagerly waiting for the blossoms to arrive here at home. Spring truly has a way of renewing the spirit.

Congratulations to Jacob Hamilton on being recognized as the Cayuga County 2026 Small Business of the Year!

This is a tremendous accomplishment and a well-deserved honor that reflects hard work, dedication, leadership, and commitment to our community. Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy, and it’s always great to see that effort recognized at the county level.

Wishing you continued success and many more achievements ahead. Moravia is proud of you, Jacob — congratulations again!

As I’ve been talking with residents, I’ve realized that many people aren’t exactly sure what a Village Trustee does. I thought it might be helpful to share a quick overview.

The role involves working on budgets, making decisions about infrastructure and services, and helping guide long-term planning for the village.

It’s about balancing today’s needs with tomorrow’s responsibilities—and making thoughtful, practical decisions along the way.

It was a beautiful spring day in the village, and I had the chance to spend some time walking around, catching up with neighbors, and enjoying a few great conversations.

I truly appreciate everyone who took a moment to say hello and sign my petition for re-election. Your support and encouragement mean a great deal to me.

Looking forward to connecting with more of you in the days ahead!
Paul.
