An eclipse is coming to Carteret Community College! On Monday, April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America. On our campus, we can view a 71% solar eclipse. Come celebrate at the Bryant Student Center from 2pm – 4pm (maximum eclipse at approximately 3:17pm). We will have viewing glasses, pizza, and themed snacks while supplies last. Thank you to the Carteret CC Foundation for supplying the pizza!

We hope to see you there!

Last week, Carteret CC Library hosted its first virtual event: Makerspace Madness. Makerspaces, simply put, are where people gather to make things. Participants tinkered in online spaces such as 3D Slash, AutoDraw, Chrome Music Lab, Scratch, and many more. We had a great turnout and four student winners!

If you are interested in using the online tools we used in this virtual event, go online to visit our virtual makerspace (https://carteret.libguides.com/makerspace).

We would like to proudly introduce you to the new NC Community Colleges Library Consortium Catalog app. To find this app on your mobile device you can click the provided hyperlink or search the Google Play Store for “NCCCS Library Catalog”. This app is currently only available through the Google Play Store for Android devices, but there are plans for it to be released for Apple devices in the future. We will keep you updated on this release!

The NCCCS Library Catalog app merges the resources available through the library catalog with the convenience of a mobile app. Features include:
• The “Scan ISBN Barcode” tool is perfect if you see a book in a store or on someone’s bookshelf and you’re wondering if the library owns a copy—all you have to do to check is click the button and scan the book’s barcode to see if it is available
• The “Nearest Libraries” feature shows how close the nearest community college library is and whether that library is currently open—if it is closed, you can see when it will reopen
• “My Account” allows users to log in with their library card number and 4-digit pin to see the materials they currently have checked out, the status of books they have placed on hold, and information about any fines they may have accrued
• “Online Resources” provides direct access to the 1.4 billion resources available through NCLIVE in addition to other resources
And, of course, you can use the app to search the library’s catalog.
