The Morehead City Police Department would like to congratulate the West Carteret High School Class of 2026.

Here are some time reminders for the WCHS Graduation Ceremony, which will be held Friday, June 5th.

> Parking lot will open to ticket holders at 4:30 PM
> Doors will open to ticket holders at 5:15 PM (GYM DOORS CLOSE PROMPTLY AT 6:20 PM)

Police Officers will be on location to assist with traffic control as well as pedestrian traffic.

2:40 p.m. - A motor vehicle collision on Hwy. 70 in front of the Morehead City Yacht Basin has one lane of traffic closed in each direction. Anticipate traffic delays until it is cleared, and please drive carefully in the area as first responders are on scene.

4 p.m. update: Hwy. 70/Arendell Street eastbound has reopened to all traffic. There are no other traffic concerns across Morehead City at this time.

Eastbound Hwy. 70/Arendell Street is down to one lane of traffic between Rochelle Dr. and Mansfield Parkway, due to utility work. Please use caution while traveling in the area.

The scene has been cleared and all westbound lanes are open to traffic.

Westbound traffic along Hwy. 70/Arendell St. is closed around the intersection with N. 23rd Street, due to a motor vehicle collision. Traffic is being diverted down N. 22nd Street to Bridges Street.

Traffic coming off of the Morehead City-Atlantic Beach bridge is also unable to turn left and travel westbound as a result.

The N.C. Center for Missing Persons has issued a Silver Alert.

Citizens are asked to be on the lookout for Wallace “Wallie” Stanley Cross, Jr., who is believed to be suffering from dementia or Alzheimer's.

Anyone with information about Wallace Stanley Cross, Jr. should call Officer Wyne at the Morehead City Police Department at (252) 726-3131.

Thank you to everyone who donated at the Battle of the Badges Blood Drive and special recognition for those who voted for Morehead City Police to keep the trophy!

This year's Battle of the Badges Blood Drive winner is the Morehead City Police Department! They earned 71 votes from donors, while Morehead City Fire-EMS earned 60 votes. This means MCPD keeps the coveted trophy for the second year in a row.

"We cannot thank the police department, fire department and the community of Morehead City enough for the outstanding support at this blood drive," said Mac Bell, Account Representative with the American Red Cross. "Another year of 100+ units donated and over 300 lives saved during one of the most challenging times of the year! We can’t support our mission without blood donors like you, so thank you so much and we will see you next year!"

Original Notice: All eastbound traffic on Bridges Street, west of Friendly Road, is currently blocked due to a motor vehicle collision. Please seek an alternate route until further notice.

In addition, the left eastbound lane of Hwy. 70/Arendell Street is currently closed from Bayview Avenue to Harborside Club for utility work. Please drive carefully in the area.
