COMMUNITY FYI: POSTGAME FIREWORKS AT MSU THURSDAY NIGHT (TONIGHT)

Happy Game Day, Eagle Fans!

Residents near Phil Simms Stadium may hear fireworks Thursday evening following Morehead State University's football home opener against Ohio Dominican. MSU has announced a postgame fireworks show after the game concludes.

If you hear fireworks later Thursday night, there's no need for alarm. It's part of the university's scheduled game day activities.

🚨🎂 HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR CHIEF! 🎂🚨
Today we're celebrating the one and only Chief... living proof that questionable hairstyles, questionable fashion choices, and questionable decisions can still lead to a successful fire service career.
📸 Swipe through the evidence:
That ponytail? NFPA non-compliant.
Sticking his tongue out? Still more mature than some of the firefighters.
Building equipment by hand? Back when Amazon was just a river.
Rocking overalls? Somehow made them look like command staff attire.
The Duck Dynasty Willie Robertson costume? Honestly... not much different than his normal leadership style.
Checking Facebook at an accident scene? We assume he was "documenting the incident."
Then there's the beard era, the ponytail era, the EMT era, the dad era, and whatever era we're in now...
Somehow, through all the hairstyles, facial hair experiments, and wardrobe choices, he's managed to lead this department, mentor countless firefighters, and keep us all headed in the right direction.
We appreciate everything you do—even if we have enough old photos to ensure you never win another argument.
Please help us wish our Fire Chief a very Happy Birthday! 🎉

The National Weather Service is forecasting the potential for severe thunderstorms across Rowan County this afternoon and evening as a strong cold front moves through the region.

Expected hazards include:
• Damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph
• Heavy rainfall with localized flooding
• Quarter-size hail or larger in isolated storms
• A possible isolated tornado

Now is the time to review your severe weather plan. Have multiple ways to receive warnings, including Wireless Emergency Alerts on your phone, trusted weather apps, local media, NOAA Weather Radio, and Rowan Alert.

If you do not feel safe in your home during severe weather, consider making arrangements before storms develop to stay with a friend, family member, neighbor, or other trusted individual in a sturdier structure.

Remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

Stay weather aware throughout the day, especially this afternoon and evening.

ROWAN COUNTY: This is the first year Rowan County is trying a program that allows to pay two volunteers. The fiscal court is using general fund money to pay firefighters to stay at the station during times when volunteer coverage can be hard to guarantee. Rowan County Reporter Alex Barber has more below.

Since common sense apparently takes the holiday off too…

🎇 No, the mortar tube is not supposed to tip over.

🍺 If you’ve reached the point where every sentence starts with, “Hey y’all, watch this…” your fireworks show is officially over.

🏠 Your roof is not a launch pad.

🌾 Dry grass burns. We know this because you remind us every single year.

🚒 Contrary to popular belief, we do not enjoy leaving our cookouts because someone thought Roman candles should be used for target practice.

If your celebration ends with:
• A burned-down trash can…
• A melted mailbox…
• Missing eyebrows…
• A visit from us…

…you probably celebrated a little too hard.

Help us celebrate America’s birthday by keeping all ten fingers, your house intact, and our pagers quiet.

HR-1 is out actively checking road conditions…we have a few places in district that has water across the roadway from the ditches overflowing! The creeks and ditches will continue to rise with the rainfall! Remember Turn Around, Don’t Drown!

Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten. As we spend time with family and friends this Memorial Day, let us pause to remember those who gave everything for the freedoms we enjoy each day.
