West Main St. will be closed in front of the new Morehead Fire Station June 1–2, 2026 due to construction.

Drivers should expect delays and follow posted detours.

Sign up for the new Rowan Alert system, and also note that you will only receive an alert if your location is in the direct path of the weather.

As always, it is a good reminder to keep up with weather on more than one platform.

We’ve received several questions regarding Rowan Alert / Everbridge notifications from yesterday’s storms.

Yesterday, no National Weather Service warning polygons were issued directly for Rowan County. Warnings remained primarily to our west and south, so Rowan Alert did not send warning notifications within Rowan County. Since the system went live in May, Rowan County has fortunately not yet had a warning polygon issued requiring an alert activation.

The system operated as intended.

It is important to remember that neighboring counties may receive warnings while Rowan County does not. Seeing warnings nearby on television, social media, or weather apps does not always mean Rowan County itself is under a warning.

We encourage residents to use multiple ways to receive weather information, including:
• Rowan Alert
• NOAA Weather Radios
• Trusted weather apps
• Local media

If you do not feel your residence is a safe place to shelter during severe weather, please make arrangements ahead of time to stay with a friend, family member, or someone else with a safer structure before storms arrive.

We are seeing reports of flooding in the county. With the rain from the past few days and the projected forecast throughout the weekend, we expect for more roadways to be covered in water.

We ask for drivers to be cautious and safe. Remember to turn around and do not drive through flood water.

SCAM ALERT

The Morehead Police Department has been made aware of another scam targeting our community.
Please remember:

The Morehead Police Department and any local law enforcement agency,b will never contact you claiming to be a federal agency.
You will never be asked by MPD or any legitimate agency to give access to your bank accounts due to alleged hacking or suspicious activity.

These scammers often try to create panic and pressure you into acting quickly. Do not share any personal or financial information. Do not transfer any funds to bitcoin, or other online platforms such as paypal, venmo and cash app.

If you receive a suspicious call or message:
Hang up immediately
Do not provide any information
Report it to the Morehead Police Department

Stay alert and help protect yourself and others by sharing this information.

Today, Morehead-Rowan County 911 Dispatcher Braxton Creekmore graduated from Class 171 of the Public Safety Dispatch Academy through Kentucky’s Department of Criminal Justice Training.

The academy prepares dispatchers to serve as the critical link between the public and first responders during emergencies and times of need.

Congratulations to Braxton on this accomplishment and commitment to serving the citizens of Rowan County and the surrounding region.

As technology continues to grow, so do the risks of online predators and internet scams. Morehead Police Department Detective Steve Justice recently spoke with LEX 18 about the importance of internet safety and community awareness.

“Here in Morehead, you think in a small community it will never happen here, but it does,” said Detective Justice. “Education and awareness are some of our strongest tools in preventing that.”

This upgraded system, will provide important notifications such as:

• Flash Flood Warnings
• Snow and Ice Advisories
• Road Closures due to construction
• Other emergency notifications affecting your area

Important: Even if you were previously signed up for Rave/Reverse 911, you must register again in Everbridge to continue receiving alerts.

• Designed to avoid unnecessary notifications
