Morehead Police Department Hosts Tactical Medicine Training
Yesterday, Morehead Police Department Chief Derrick Blevins hosted tactical medicine training sessions designed to prepare first responders for situations they may encounter while on duty, including active shooter incidents and other critical emergencies.
To accommodate personnel working different shifts, three separate training sessions were conducted throughout the day. A total of 27 participants attended the training, representing Morehead Police Department, Morehead Fire Department, Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, Rowan County Court Security and Rowan County School Resource Officers.
The training included both classroom instruction and hands-on, real world demonstrations that focused on providing immediate medical care in high-risk environments. Participants practiced lifesaving techniques they could administer in emergency situations before additional medical resources would arrive on scene. Some of those techniques included:
• Applying a self tourniquet
• Packing a deep open wound
• Patching a chest wound
• Wrapping and stabilizing arm injuries
• Opening a nasal airway
Chief Blevins stated, “this type of training is essential to ensuring our first responders are prepared to react quickly and effectively during emergencies.”
