SFRT District 9 instructors recently had the opportunity to participate in a Cave Rescue class at Carter Caves State Resort Park.

This specialized training gave our instructors valuable hands-on experience and a better understanding of the unique challenges involved in cave rescue operations. From navigating difficult underground environments to moving and rescuing patients in confined and technical areas, the class provided skills that can only be gained through realistic training.

More importantly, the knowledge gained during this class will allow our instructors to develop and deliver cave rescue training across the Commonwealth, helping prepare Kentucky’s fire and rescue personnel for these challenging incidents.

We are so thankful for a continued partnership with Carter Caves State Resort Park!!

FIRST-TIME PARTNERSHIP — CREATING NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR WEST CARTER SENIORS!

Kentucky Fire Commission – State Fire Rescue Training District 9, West Carter High School, and the Olive Hill Fire Department are excited to announce a first-time partnership to offer an EMT-Basic course at West Carter High School!

This is more than just another high school class. It is an opportunity for seniors to graduate with valuable education, hands-on skills, and a certification that can open the door to several different career paths.

Students who successfully complete the EMT-Basic course will be prepared to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) EMT certification exam. After successfully completing the required certification and Kentucky licensure process, students can be ready to enter the workforce directly after high school.

But becoming an EMT can also be just the first step. EMT certification provides a strong foundation for students who want to continue into more advanced training such as Advanced EMT or Paramedic, as well as careers in fire and emergency services.
The knowledge and hands-on experience gained in EMT training can also be extremely beneficial for students considering other healthcare careers. Whether their future plans include nursing, physician assistant studies, medicine, respiratory therapy, or another medical field, they will begin with real-world experience in patient assessment, emergency care, communication, and working as part of a healthcare team.

For a high school senior, this is an incredible opportunity — a chance to graduate prepared for a job today while building a foundation for the career they want tomorrow.
This partnership is a great example of what can happen when our schools, local fire departments, and State Fire Rescue Training work together to invest in our young people, our communities, and the future of Kentucky's emergency and healthcare workforce.

We are excited to get this program started and even more excited to see where these students take it!
