St. Mary Levee District The St. Mary Levee District was created in response to a request of federal officials to have one primary voice for river and surge flood control works.

At this time The St. Mary Levee District does not anticipate the closure of any floodgates or structures in the district.

The Bayou Chene floodgate in now open to vessel traffic.

The St. Mary Levee District will be closing the Bayou Chene barge at 7 am Monday morning April 14th, 2025 in anticipation of the rising Atchafalaya river. There will be no passage after 7 am Monday morning. The gate will be opened when conditions allow.

St. Mary Levee District will be closing floodgates throughout the parish as follows:
Bayou Teche floodgate - 5 pm Today 9/9/2024
Franklin Canal - 10:30 am Tomorrow 9/10/2024
Hanson Canal - Today
Yellow Bayou - Today
Bayou Chene - 7 am Tomorrow 9/10/2024
Floodgates along the river in Morgan City and Berwick will be closed throughout the day today and tomorrow. September 9-10, 2024

ATTENTION Levee access from Charenton Beach Rd will be closed from June 24th to June 27th 2024. The closure is necessary to repair a collapsing culvert beneath the road. Access will be from Martin Ridge Rd down the bottom Levee road.

The Franklin Canal boat launch and channel going through the flood structure will be closed on Monday May 20th and Tuesday May 21st, 2024 to all traffic. This is required for maintenance and inspection of the flood protection structure.

By the request of the St. Mary Parish Government, the Hanson Canal Flood Structure has been closed and the Bayou Teche Structure will be closed tomorrow, Friday, November 3rd. This action is to protect the Bayou Teche main water intake from saltwater intrusion.

The Bayou Teche Flood Control structure will be closed Tuesday September 26th, 2023 for approximately 4 hours starting at 8:00 am. This is a routine maintenance closure.
