🚔 Traffic Tuesday 🚔

Morgan Hill officers responded to several traffic-related incidents throughout the week:

🔹 A U-Haul driver attempted to drive around a speed bump in the parking lot of Sobrato High School and collided with the underside of a solar panel structure.

🔹 A driver mistakenly believed her vehicle was in reverse, accelerated forward, drove through a handicap parking sign, and collided with another parked vehicle.

🔹 Officers investigated a hit-and-run collision. The driver stated she had “no knowledge” of the damage to her vehicle or the light pole involved.

🔹 A driver suffered a medical emergency believed to be a seizure and drove into a residence. Emergency personnel responded, and the incident remains under investigation.

🔹 A male riding a scooter collided with the passenger side of a northbound vehicle and sustained injuries to his shoulder and hips.

🔹 A serious injury collision occurred when a vehicle turning left from southbound Monterey Road onto East Middle Avenue struck a northbound motorcyclist. The rider was ejected, ultimately striking a tree and sustaining major injuries. The motorcycle continued north, struck a bus stop sign, and ignited a small grass fire.

⚠️ Traffic Safety Reminder: Stay alert, avoid distractions, ensure your vehicle is in the correct gear before moving, and use extra caution when making turns or sharing the roadway with motorcyclists, bicyclists, and scooter riders.

🌕 While you were asleep under the full moon…

Utilizing automated license plate readers, MHPD officers responded to the area of a reported stolen vehicle out of Gilroy. Officers located the vehicle, and a pursuit ensued back toward Gilroy.

The suspects then turned around and headed back into Morgan Hill, where officers successfully deployed spike strips.

The pursuit continued until the occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. With assistance from CHP and GPD’s four-legged officers, the driver was quickly located and taken into custody.

The stolen vehicle was recovered, and the suspects ended their night behind bars.

Great teamwork by all agencies involved. 👮🚔🐕

Four DUI arrests in one night.

That’s four people who thought, “I’m probably okay to drive.”

They were not.

Three arrests came from the DUI checkpoint, and one was made elsewhere in town. Save yourself the arrest, the tow bill, the court dates, and the embarrassment. Don’t drive impaired.

🚔 DUI Checkpoint Activated 🚔

The DUI checkpoint is now in operation. If you’re heading out tonight, have a great evening and make responsible choices. Plan ahead, designate a sober driver, use a rideshare service, or arrange a safe ride home.

Drive safely and help keep our roads safe for everyone.

🚔 Weekend Incident: Convicted Felon edition 🚔
During a patrol check this weekend, Officer Vieira spotted two fi****ms sitting in plain view on the floorboard of a vehicle parked at a local hotel. Not exactly stealth mode.

Officers decided the vehicle would be towed. Right as the tow truck was getting ready to load it up, Ronald emerged from the hotel and let officers know the vehicle was his. He also confirmed the keys hanging from his belt belonged to the vehicle.
Inside the vehicle, officers located an unloaded R***r .357 Magnum revolver and a replica Sig Sauer firearm. Unfortunately for Ronald, he is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing fi****ms.

Officers also found narcotics and enough paraphernalia in Ronald’s duffle bag to suggest he was not traveling light.
Ronald was arrested and booked into jail. The vehicle got a tow.
As always:
🚫 Don’t leave fi****ms in plain view
🚫 Don’t carry narcotics

Morgan Hill officers will continue proactively patrolling to keep the community safe.

Adding to yesterday's Traffic Tuesday...
🚦 Morgan Hill Traffic Snapshot 🚦
A reminder that injury crashes happen fast — and often because of simple mistakes, distractions, or inattention behind the wheel. Here are last week's collisions in Morgan Hill:

🛴 Two juveniles riding on the same e-scooter failed to stop before entering an intersection and broadsided a vehicle that was stopped at a stop sign. One juvenile complained of foot pain following the collision.

🚗 An inattentive driver rear-ended a vehicle stopped at a traffic light. The at-fault driver was cited for speed and insurance violations.

😴 A driver traveling with his family along Madrone Parkway reportedly dozed off behind the wheel and collided with two parked vehicles.

🌳 Another driver lost control while traveling on Mission View Lane, veered off the roadway, and struck a tree and multiple curbs. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Paying attention matters.
✔ Slow down
✔ Stay alert
✔ Obey traffic controls
✔ Avoid distractions
✔ Never ride double on e-scooters
Most crashes are preventable. A few seconds of attention can make all the difference.
