Good Evening, Bosque County,
🚨 New World Screwworm Awareness 🚨
❓ Do you know what to look for?
❓ Do you know what to do if you suspect a case?
❓ Are you familiar with the reporting process?
Early detection and rapid reporting are critical to protecting Texas livestock, wildlife, pets, and animal health. We encourage everyone to visit www.screwworm.gov to learn how you can help be part of the solution. At this time, Bosque County has no known or suspected cases of New World Screwworm. However, I am actively monitoring the situation and participating in daily coordination calls with the State of Texas and federal partners to stay informed of any developments.
🔍 What to watch for:
• Maggots or larvae in wounds
• Wounds that are enlarging, draining, or have a foul odor
• Animals showing signs of irritation, pain, loss of appetite, or isolation from the herd
📞 If you suspect a case, contact your veterinarian immediately and report it to the appropriate animal health authorities.
Together, through awareness, prevention, and early reporting, we can help protect the animals that are so important to our county and our way of life.
