P. S.A
Remember folks, the motorcycle rally is this week. This means traffic is sure to be a bit heavier. There will be many motorists unfamiliar with our area trying to find their way around the county. Be prepared for unpredictable traffic patterns such as sudden stops, wandering, slow moving vehicles etc. Of course, impaired drivers are always a possibility. There may be unusual people in unusual places. Don’t hesitate to call if necessary of course. Be patient and cautious as I know you all always are. Also be aware of increased emergency vehicle responses and please try to be patient with our Deputies and other law-enforcement as our job gets a little more difficult during this time. Thank you all.

Happy Birthday to the United States of America. She’s given so much to the world and we’re all blessed beyond measure to live here.

“God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home.”

From the Courthouse to your house, have a blessed, safe and fun Independence Day and may God bless you all and may God bless America!

A sudden power outage has caused loss of power at the Union County Courthouse. Judge Onan has ordered the courthouse closed as a result. This will include the Sheriff’s Office. If you have an emergency or call for service please as always dial 911 or the non emergency number 270 389 H.E.L.P (4357). The court Annex has not been affected. Also, the traffic light at Main and Morgan is out. Use caution, treat the intersection as a 4 way stop. Patience and courtesy will make the difference there. Otherwise have a great day.

Attention! There is a scam going around where a caller will claim to be a Deputy or Investigator from the Union County Sheriff's Office. Lately, the name they've been using is "Deputy Hall". We DO NOT have a Deputy Hall on our roster. Even IF they do use the name of an active Deputy Sheriff do not fall for it. HANG UP and CALL US!
This is not the only scam. There are dozens upon dozens of creative ways to relieve you of your money.
A FEW POINTS:
ALWAYS ask questions. IF anyone calls you, requesting money or personal information, whether claiming to be from our office or not, do not give it to them. Hang up and call the local Sheriff's Office number, never use a number they provide. You should always be leery of anyone reaching out to you about business you are not familiar with. We will not call you if we have a warrant for your arrest. We conduct that business face to face. We DO NOT take fine payments. Ever. That is done through the Circuit Court Clerks Office. They DO NOT request payment by Bit Coin, Chime cards, or any other unconventional means.
Listen, I am continually blown away by people that simply throw their money at these scammers with little to no questioning what so ever. You must understand, once you have completed the transaction and broken contact with them there is very often nothing that can be done to recover your assets. These people are using technology that is difficult, at best, to trace and they are quite often in other (rather unhelpful) countries. Truly, the best defense is to just not fall for their scam. I would absolutely love nothing more than to put the cuffs on these people myself but YOU are the first line of defense. Please, if your’e reading this, remember it and DO pass it along to everyone you know. It seems our senior citizens are often targets of these scams more than anyone. If you know someone that falls in that category then please have conversations about what phone calls and or mail they are receiving. You may save them not just thousands of dollars but their quality of life as well.
Thank you
Sincerely, Sheriff Jason O. Thomas
