PSA: To our Farmers, Heavy Equipment Companies and anyone using/storing diesel fuel listen up! As you well know fuel prices are up given the current situation overseas. With that in mind I urge you to watch your fuel supplies. Though many hard working folks use diesel so do many “unscrupulous” (insert your adjective of choice here) characters as well. Even without high fuel prices we often experience an uptick in fuel theft during crop season. Working together we may not stop it but we can certainly work to catch them! We work off of information. If you have any issues or suspicions don’t hesitate to call and report it. We want to know! If someone feels they must steal we feel we must lock them up. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Thank you and everyone stay safe and pray for rain. 🙏

Easter serves as a meaningful reminder of hope, renewal, and new beginnings. It reflects the enduring belief that light overcomes darkness and that even in the face of hardship, there is opportunity for restoration and growth.
All of us at the Union County Sheriff’s Office want to wish you and yours a very happy Easter.

SCAM ALERT!
The scammers are busy today! We’ve received several calls just today on an ongoing scam involving camera initiated traffic violations. Below is an example of one of them. Don’t fall for it and pass this on to your friends and family. Typically, violations of this sort are sent via mail but still be cautious even then. Never give personal information to unknown persons, EVER!
Have a great weekend.

Today, we’ll lay to rest Billy Steve Peak. Billy Steve wore many hats. One of which was that of Sheriff. I was saddened to hear of Billy Steve’s passing as he was not just fondly remembered as Sheriff but he was, I am proud to say, my friend. I could tell a lot of good and funny stories of his times telling stories and just laughing at other’ tales. I remember him as kind, caring and perhaps most of all happy. As I sit in what is now my office, I can hear Billy Steve’s chuckle and laugh filling that same room as it did over the years. He was always a welcome visitor to the Sheriff’s Office long after he was the occupant of that space. He, without fail would always get serious just for a moment, telling me before we parted, “you be careful now”. Then a parting “hey! It was good to see you”. Well, Billy Steve, it was definitely good to see you too and we’ll all miss your kindness, your happiness, your smile and your laugh. Thank you for making a new young Deputy feel important and God Speed ol buddy.

Today is National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day. I can think of two good reasons to celebrate! SROs Treg Brooks and John Shofner absolutely love our schools and our kiddos and it definitely shows. Their dedication goes far beyond being there just during school hours. From dedicating your time when needed at school functions to taking those late night phone calls when your insight is needed to help a troubled student, our SROs are there. I really can’t quantify what a dedicated SRO adds to the school experience for students and staff. They are definitely a critical component in not just safety but in creating a comfortable environment for education and fellowship. Thank you gentlemen for not just everything you do but for how you do it! 🫡
Make sure you stop and thank them tomorrow at school!
