If you care, leave it there! Too often, fawns are kidnapped from their mothers, who park them in seemingly weird places during the day. They come back for their kiddos around dusk, so seeing one alone during the day is completely normal!

You should only intervene if:

- the baby is covered in fly strike (looks lile grains of rice), maggots, or blood from wounds
- the fawn is injured in some way or is in an unsafe location
- a series of other symtoms leads you to believe it is truly orphaned (found next to deceased mother, is dehydrated, is following people and crying for hours)
- a wildlife rehabber told you to based on the information you provided

This sweet little piebald was found at a business in Lenior yesterday morning crying and running up to people. With heavy traffic around and no mom in sight for several hours they didn’t feel comfortable leaving her alone so they got her to me. Most piebalds are born with deformities and rarely make it to be adults. And this special little girl unfortunately does have deformities but she’s eating great and is able to walk around.

If you would like to help we are in need of lots of fawn formula. Wildlife rehabbers are NOT state funded and pay for everything out of pocket other than donations. Rescue, Rehab and Release

Please… I am begging you. If I (or another licensed wildlife rehabilitator) instruct you not to move a fawn, rabbit, or other wild animal and tell you to leave it where it is… please listen. ❤️

I know it is hard. It feels wrong to walk away when you care so deeply. But the truth is, there is hardly any truly “wild” space left for these animals. Fawns are born in backyards. Rabbits nest inside fences, flower beds, and neighborhoods. We have to learn how to coexist with them.

Baby wildlife are often exactly where they are supposed to be. Mom is nearby. She is feeding them, watching them, and in many cases, she will move them when the time is right (and feels predators- including you!! Are away)

When we interfere, move babies, or take them away from their location without guidance, we aren’t helping, we are disrupting their chance to survive and their natural livelihood.

Please trust the process. Please trust licensed wildlife professionals. And when in doubt, call before you move. Coexistence matters. 🦌🐇🌿
