Burke Animal Resource Center is very short-staffed today, Friday, June 19, and we could really use some help!

We need volunteers to help feed animals, walk dogs, run play groups so our dogs can get out and play, assist with meet-and-greets, and help with daily care around the shelter.

Even a few hours can make a huge difference for the animals waiting for homes. If you have some free time today and would like to help, please stop by or contact the shelter.

Any help at all would be so appreciated!

We are open 10am-4pm, just come on in!

❤️ Our animals—and our staff—would greatly appreciate the extra support! 🐶🐱🐾

🐾 MACE HAS A CONFESSION TO MAKE... 🐾
"Listen, I know the shelter keeps calling me a senior dog and a distinguished gentleman.
First of all, rude.
Second of all, I prefer the term vintage model.
I enjoy leisurely strolls, afternoon naps, and minding my own business. I don't need to run a marathon. I don't need to join a puppy wrestling league. I don't need chaos.
I just need a couch.
And maybe a snack.
And maybe another couch.
And maybe a human who understands that bedtime is more of an all-day activity.
The shelter staff loves me, but I've been here a long time. Long enough that they're starting to worry about me. Shelter life is hard on older dogs. The noise, the constant activity, the never knowing when your turn will come.
Every day I watch people walk by my kennel looking for younger dogs, flashier dogs, dogs with more energy than common sense.
Meanwhile, I'm over here offering loyalty, companionship, and a 100% guarantee that I won't convince your children to do anything reckless.
I get along with other dogs who appreciate a slower pace. I'm sweet, easygoing, and just looking for someone who sees value in an old soul.
So if you've ever said, 'I don't want a puppy. I want a good dog.'
Hi.
I'm Mace.
And I'm still waiting."
❤️ Please share Mace. He deserves a soft landing and a family of his own. 🏡🐾

🚨 URGENT: BRUISER NEEDS A PLACE TO LAND 🚨
This handsome boy is Bruiser, and today we're asking our community for help.
Bruiser is not aggressive. He is not dangerous. He is not "bad."
In fact, Bruiser is one of the sweetest dogs you'll meet. He loves people, enjoys attention, and desperately wants connection.
The problem is that shelter life is breaking his heart.
Over the last month, Bruiser has lost 16 pounds due to severe kennel stress and anxiety. Despite our efforts, he continues to decline emotionally in the shelter environment. He spends his days overwhelmed, anxious, and unable to settle. This is no way for a dog to live.
As animal welfare professionals, we have a responsibility not only to keep animals alive, but to consider their quality of life. We never want a dog to suffer simply because we are afraid to make difficult decisions.
Because of Bruiser's continued decline, we are now facing the heartbreaking possibility of humane euthanasia if we cannot find a safe placement for him.
We are making this post because we believe Bruiser deserves one last chance.
🏡 What Bruiser needs: • An adopter, foster, or rescue commitment • A calm environment where he can decompress • Someone willing to give him the opportunity to be a dog again
Look at his face. Look at that smile. This dog still has so much love to give.
If you have ever considered fostering, adopting, or helping a shelter dog in need, please consider Bruiser. A shelter is not the right place for him, but we believe there may be a home where he can finally exhale.
📞 Contact us immediately if you can help. ⏳ Time is extremely limited.
Please share. His person may be just one share away.

🎉 ADOPTION FEES SPONSORED THIS WEEK JUNE 17th - JUNE 20th! 🎉

A generous friend of the shelter has sponsored adoptions, which means now is the perfect time to meet your new best friend!

Right now, our kennels and cat rooms are full of incredible animals waiting for a family to call their own. Whether you’re looking for a laid-back senior, a loyal adult companion, a goofy teenage pup, a playful puppy, a cuddly cat, or a mischievous kitten, we have someone ready to steal your heart.

Every day we see amazing dogs and cats overlooked simply because there are so many needing homes. This week, thanks to our sponsor, you can give a deserving animal a fresh start while helping us make room for the next pets that need our care.

Come visit and see for yourself—you might just find the missing piece of your family.

We are still looking for temporary kitten fosters!
We provide the materials, you provide a home they can thrive in.
Once they are big enough, they come back and get adopted out!

The shelter is loud, scary and kittens this young, who have not yet completed their rounds of vaccinations, are vulnerable to illness while here.

To foster or for more information please COME to the shelter.
