🌄 Coffee at the Museum – June Program! ☕️
Join us Thursday, June 25th at 10:00 AM at the Claude and Jo Sitton Education Center for a fascinating look at Western North Carolina’s transportation past—and its future.

We’re excited to welcome Mayor Steve Little of Marion as our guest speaker. He’ll share the compelling story of how the end of passenger rail service in 1975 didn’t just remove a mode of travel—it severed a vital connection to our region’s heritage and to the national rail network.

For nearly 50 years, WNC has been without passenger rail, even as millions of visitors continue to travel to our mountains from cities currently served by Amtrak. But the movement to bring rail back is stronger than ever.

🚆 The WNC Rail Committee, working for more than two decades, has gathered over 140 resolutions of support from communities across the corridor—including Marion, Morganton, Old Fort, Black Mountain, Valdese, Hickory, Conover, Statesville, and Asheville. This widespread, grassroots momentum shows that restoring passenger rail isn’t just about nostalgia—it’s about investing in a vibrant, connected future for Western North Carolina.

Come enjoy a cup of coffee, learn something new, and be part of the conversation about reconnecting our region.
