If you head southeast on Sterling Street in Morganton, NC you will be greeted by a mural of Ulissa Deloatch, client of WorkSource West, signing “I love you,” honoring the history and culture of the region’s Deaf community. The mural, titled Signs of the Times, was created by Deaf photo-realism artist Nico Cathcart
Ulissa Deloatch, 67 graduated from NCSD in 1982. After graduation she worked several small jobs then worked as a substitute dorm supervisor for 29 years at her alma mater. She also drove a school bus for NCSD for a time. Now she works at the school as a substitute teacher.
EIPD has worked closely with Deloatch for years by providing help with hearing aids, support in maintaining her job at North Carolina School for the Deaf and providing help with interpreter services for things like medical appointments. Deloatch is grateful for the support she has received over the years and recommends their services to others who can benefit from it.
