Updates for August 25, 2026:
1. There is training scheduled tonight at 7 pm at the station for all firefighters. As a reminder, members who do not meet training hours, are not present at least once a month for training, or who are not responding to calls may be asked for their gear and equipment back so it can be distributed to those who are responding and attending.
2. TRAINING: Chesterfield will be hosting an “Introduction to Technical Rescue (TR) - FRC 1200,” course required for all firefighters who are not certified firefighters. This course will be held at our station from 6pm to 10 pm on the following dates: September 7, 8, 16, 17, 21, 22, 28, & 29, along with an all day (8am – 5 pm) skills day on September 26th. I am asking the Fire Auxiliary to provide a meal on the first day of training for each week of training and the Saturday (So, a meal on Sept. 7, 16, 21, 26, 28). Topics for this course include:
a. Rescue principles and safety considerations
b. Health and wellness for technical rescuers
c. Introduction to rope systems, knots, and mechanical advantages
d. Common rescue scenarios and equipment use
e. This course prepares students for and is required to attend the next certifications in the TR series.
3. APPARATUS: Rescue 1 is back in service following the replacement of the electronic control board for the emergency lights.
4. TRAINING: Cleveland County Fire College registration has now opened for members wanting to take a class there. The Fire College is scheduled from November 13-15. There is a catalog at the station, and more information is available at https://clevelandcc.edu/firecollege/ . If you work with me to register, I will use the station’s card to pay your registration. If the department pays and you don’t attend, you must pay back the registration and any costs.
5. CHIEFS REPORT: Ladies and gentlemen, with Chesterfield hosting this Intro to TR course, I need at least 8 members to attend to make the roster. In order for our agency to maintain our Light Rescue certification, we must maintain 8 members who are either certified firefighters or certified in TR. Our part-time staff bolster those numbers for us, but we need more volunteers to get active in this department, in training, and as leaders. In short, we need YOU! If there is a reason you can’t attend every Tuesday, I understand, but let’s talk about it. We need you to attend training at least once a month. Even our Part-Time staff are asked to attend in-person training with the department to get to know our volunteers and share their knowledge. I appreciate you dedicating your time and efforts to volunteering with us. You make a difference in this community!
