For a fun start to your summer, register for Sherman County 4-H Day Camp, June 10 and June 11 at Camp Morrow near Wamic. Here’s the brochure for a busy, action-packed two days with transportation provided from and to Sherman County each day. Thanks to great fund-raising, donors and local grants, cost is only $20/camper instead of regular $50/camper. Here’s your flyer, make sure to turn in registration and payment by Wednesday, June 3.

The Pans on Fire outdoor cooking 4-H club met on Thursday May 21 at 3:50pm at the Extension Office. Attending were Sara, Drew, Logan, Lucas and Simon. Absent were Will and Kyle (baseball). Pledge of Allegiance led by Lucas, 4-H Pledge by Simon. We talked about the last meeting, food temperatures and safety, cooked burgers and cooked leftover S’mores ingredients. The Lucky Lambs 4-H sheep club met on Sunday May 17 at 3pm at the Extension Office. Attending were Rory, Harper, Jules, Willow, Addie, Brock and Piper. Unexcused absence: Hunter. Pledges led by Addie. We started with making sure everyone had their lambs then went into presentations. Rory did a presentation on the cuts of a lamb. Jules is on how to feed your lamb. Addie did hers on the most common market lamb and what makes a good market lamb. Willow did hers on the anatomy of a lamb. We also talked about the lambs we picked and why we picked them. Lastly Harper did hers on the cuts of a lamb. Next meeting will be June 14. Meeting adjourned at 3:47pm. Signed, Piper vonBorstel, News Reporter

Reminder to our first year 4-H livestock and dog members, YQCA (Youth for the Quality Care of Livestock) is REQUIRED by state 4-H in order to exhibit at the county fair. You've received letters and emails from Sherman 4-H office about how to register online and use your coupon, for either online or in-person trainings. We have TWO in-person Instructor-Led Trainings (ILT) this weekend: Saturday May 16 9am with biscuits and gravy and Sunday May 17 4:15pm (right after the 4-H sheep meeting) with pizza. Come and get your training and certification completed!

The Junior Master Gardeners 4-H gardening club met on May 2 at 5:20pm at the Extension Office. Attending were Sara Jo, Drew and Tinleigh. Pledge of Allegiance by Tinleigh, 4-H Pledge by Drew and Sara. What we did during the meeting: learned about the parts of plants; created our own gardens using paper and photos, “planting” our own plants; created our own garden signs. The Pans on Fire outdoor cooking 4-H club met on Thursday May 7 at 3:50pm at the Extension Office. Attending were Logan, Lucas, Sara Jo, Drew, Simon and guest Arwen. Excused were Will and Kyle. Pledge of Allegiance led by Simon, 4-H Pledge by Lucas. What we did during the meeting: review last meeting’s lesson; updated record books; “How Full is My Propane Bottle” STEM activity; set up camp stoves; convection cooking heat transfer making macaroni and cheese mixes. The Saving Nines 4-H sewing club met on May 3 at 5pm at the Extension Office. Attending were: T’Sharra, Cora, Olivia, Paisley, Kennan, Abbie vb, Avery, Ireland, Ruby, Aly, Sara, Abby E, Amelia, Charlotte, Addilyn, JJ, Lylah. Excused were Skylar and Sam. Pledge of Allegiance by Charlotte, 4-H Pledge by Cora. Today we talked about the quilt raffle dates. We decided to sell tickets for $17.76 or 2 for $25. We will sell at the Grass Valley Farmers markets on May 9, June 13, July 11 and August 8. As well as the Wasco Memorial Day celebration on May 28 and the Sherman County Harvest Fest June 27. The quilt is valued at $750. All proceeds go back to the sewing club for machine maintenance and supplies. We completed a lesson on hand stitching by Olivia. We also talked about the sewing show case at fair. Our next meeting will be July 26 at 5pm. Meeting adjourned at 6:15pm.

The Goatees 4-H club met on March 3 at 6pm at the school. Attending were: Austin, Levi, Lilly, Ty, Wyatt, Elsie, Lylah, Drake, Peyton, Emma, Leah, Harper, Cora, Cooper, Gillian, Liam, Livy, JJ, Will, Natalie, Paisley, Camryn, Abigail, Avery. Excused were: Tyson, Savanna, Cooper, Kaileigh, Kenzleigh, Paxton, Kiara, Garrett, Samantha. Pledge of Allegiance by Natalie, 4-H Pledge by Harper and Cora. We did officer elections and elected were: President Emma G, Vice President Leah G, Treasurer Austin A, Secretary Levi A. Not on this, Cooper and Harper gave presentations. After this, others that did not yet have presentations received their topics. Meeting adjourned at 6:48pm. Levi A, News Reporter

The Goatees 4-H club met on April 12 at 3:30pm at the school. Attending were Levi, Austin, Lilly, Ty, Wyatt, Elsie, Lylah, Drake, Savanna, Tyson, Peyton, Emma, Leah, Cooper, Harper, Kaileigh, Kenleigh, Logan, Cooper, Gillian, Livy, Liam, JJ, Will, Kiara, Natalie, Paisley, Garrett, Samantha, Abbie, Avery, Paxton. Excused were Cora and Camryn. Pledge of Allegiance by Savanna, 4-H Pledge by Kaileigh. We talked about the local goat sale and where people had secured goats. We emphasized the need for scrapies tags and cool form and seller information for records. Went over what we should have before we bring goats home. Livy, JJ, Will, Avery, Lilly, Ty and Wyatt all gave presentations. Topics included “what market weight means”, “why boer goats jump”, “Fun facts about boer goat colors and spots” and “goat diseases”. All others who haven’t presented will present at the June meeting. Next meeting will be May 17. Meeting adjourned at 4:30pm.
