Good Morning Friends and Followers of the Office...

At 6pm tonight, Friday, the weekend officially begins. As we move into the Memorial Day Weekend and fire up the grills and break out the liquid refreshments let us keep the true spirit of Memorial Day in mind. Yes, this is the unofficial beginning of summer but, it is also a time to remember those who gave their all in service of us, the American people. They fought and died so that we could have a weekend like this one. A weekend where we can enjoy time with family and friends. A weekend where we can remember those who have since gone from our family and friends yet remain in our memories forever.

So, as you go about the weekend, please take a few moments to remember those who gave their all, those who have served and are now in their twilight years, those who are presently serving and cannot be at home to celebrate with their families.

I extend this to all of our military families and to all of the Police, Fire, EMS, Nurses and Doctors and everyone that does not have the weekend off because they are keeping us safe....

Please, as you go about the weekend, be smart and stay safe. All of us here at the Office would like to spend the weekend with our families as well but we are here to serve when needed.....

Hello Friends and Followers of the Office.

We, here at the Office, want you to know that you are totally awesome and with your support we have placed so many Mental Health Awareness/Su***de Prevention benches around the county. Without your help and support this would never have been possible.

Like all good things this has to come to an end.....

Please continue to recycle all your plastics and if there is someone that would like to take this project over please reach out.

Do not forget the Su***de Prevention Walk/Run/Stroll this September.......

Yesterday was our first Versiti Blood Center of Illinois blood drive at the Morocco Branch of the Newton County Library. I must admit that I was beyond happy with the turnout. We had seventeen donors and had to turn two away and one showed up late and could not donate. That would have been twenty total.......

I thank each and everyone who took the time out of their busy schedule to provide the much needed blood to our local hospitals.

If you missed this drive and would like to donate in the future we will be having another blood drive at the Lake Village Branch of the Newton County Library on June 8th from 3pm - 7pm....

Again, Thank You !!!!!!

At no time will the Coroner's Office try to sell you anything...ever.

Please DO NOT give out any personal information to anyone saying that they represent the Coroner's Office.........

PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On the evening of April 17, 2026 at 7:12 pm the Newton County Coroner's Office responded to a fatal crash on I-65 southbound near the 233 mile marker. Upon arrival there was a pickup truck type vehicle that had struck the trailer of a semi-tractor-trailer. The passenger in the pickup was pronounced deceased at the scene and was taken to the Tippecanoe County Morgue in Lafayette, IN by the Newton County Coroner for autopsy scheduled for Monday April 20, 2026. The driver was transported to Franciscan Health - Crown Point with non-life-threatening injuries. The deceased has been identified as Austin Lee Nitcher, 25 of Crown Point, Indiana. Family has been notified by the Coroner's Office.
