Diesel Spill – Highway 9 & Oates Road

**UPDATE- Highway 9 is clear. Traffic is advised to travel with caution as cleanup will continue throughout tomorrow (Saturday).**

Conway County OEM units are currently on scene with Oppelo Fire Department at Highway 9 and Oates Road in Oppelo for an approximately 100-gallon diesel fuel spill.

ARDOT, the Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment, and the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management have all been notified of the incident.

Crews are working to mitigate the spill and address the affected area.

Highway 9 remains blocked at this time. Traffic is being routed around Oates Road until further notice.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use caution around emergency personnel.

Morrilton Community Center is open from 5:00AM till 7:00PM. There is a cooling center for anyone who needs it. We are located at 1307 E Harding St. You can call us at 501 354 4122 for questions you may have or if you need directions.

Together, we’re building a more resilient community.

This weekend, our office is proud to be supporting National Field Day. Our mobile command unit is serving as a communications hub staffed by local amateur radio operators.

Field Day is the largest annual amateur radio exercise in North America, bringing together operators to test emergency communications capabilities under real-world conditions. Events like this help strengthen the partnerships and skills that become invaluable when traditional communication systems fail during disasters and emergencies.

We’re proud to provide our command unit as a platform for this important event and appreciate the dedication of our local amateur radio volunteers who are helping ensure our community remains prepared.

Thank you to everyone participating and demonstrating the vital role amateur radio continues to play in emergency management and public safety.

Conway County OEM is currently on scene of a large load blocking the roadway in the area of the 101 and Fishlake Road. The 72,000lb load became stuck in the grass making the turn off of the 101 eastbound exit ramp onto Fishlake Rd.

Director Beavers stated the equipment was part of a cooling system for a data center.

Update: 101 Eastbound ramp and Fishlake Rd. are now open.
