Good evening to all the residents of Morris Plains
First I would like to say thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding after this hot, uncomfortable weekend. I am taking this opportunity to give an important update to those residents who are still without power, inconvenienced and frustrated.
I have been on two calls this evening; the first with the Governor’s Office and Morris County Mayors. This one and a half hour call consisted of various storm related topics and the issuance of a State of Emergency which would allow access to more resources and personnel for restoration. I will be part of a follow up call once again tomorrow with the Governor’s Office for updates on unanswered questions.
My second call was with JCP&L and Northern NJ Mayors to discuss restoration, miscommunication, poor communication, lags in repair time and no trucks in our towns for extended periods of time. While we do appreciate everything they have done so far, there are still plenty of improvements that need to be implemented for smoother restoration from JCP&L that we are fighting for on your behalf. I won’t speak for everyone, but they have assured me the bulk of our outages will be addressed by Tuesday evening with a completion by Wednesday evening. Work will begin tonight in various locations of the Borough to achieve this goal. We are assured that resources are continuing to arrive hourly for assistance in these repairs. Some of the delay is due to JCP&L staggering restoration as to not surge their system which could possibly create further delays. I did not have an update from JCP&L regarding restoration times or schedules until the call this evening; JCP&L was dormant all day long. I don’t want to give false hope, but I felt some information should be provided. I have asked our OEM Coordinator to contact the Morris County OEM Coordinator to request from the State to provide the following resources: trucks, trees trucks and chippers to assist in expedited clean up of the devastating tree damage throughout the Borough.
Again we understand your frustration during this time and we are working to do everything we can to get everyone restored as quick as possible.
The last important subject that needs to be addressed is an update about NJ Transit regarding the Morris Essex Line restoration time period. These questions were asked on our Governors conference call in which no answer was provided. I can suggest to go on the NJ Transit site if needed, but we will have an update tomorrow on their progress.
I hope this brings a little light to the end of the tunnel especially to those who are still inconvenienced and without power.
