Special thanks to Mike Ryer of the Morris Township Fire Department for providing the following information regarding Lt. Jack W. Higbie who was born in Morris Plains (1921). The attached picture was located on the eastern end of Long Island (NY).

Lt. Higbie graduated from Morristown High School in 1938, during this time he was a member of the Morris Plains Fire Department.

Lt. Higbie served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps. He enlisted in 1941 in the Army Air Force and was transferred to the Signal Corps in 1943. He served in Africa and Italy. Lt. Higbie was the radar operator on a B-17-G Flying Fortress, tail number 44-6261.

Lt. Higbie was married to 1st Lt. Erma Root Higbie who was a member of the Army Nurses Corps, stationed in Italy.

Lt. Higbie's father served in World War II and received a medical discharge after nine months of service. Lt. Higbie's father was also a veteran of World War I.

On February 2nd, 1945, Lt. Higbie was a passenger on a C-47 that took off from Florence headed to Rome when the plane crashed near Montieri, Italy. At the time of his death Lt. Higbie was 23 years old.

Division A is Bergen County, Essex County, Hudson County, Morris County, Passaic County, Somerset County, Sussex County, Warren County, Hopewell Township in Mercer County, Union County, Hunterdon County, Middlesex County (north of Raritan River).

Division B is - Burlington County, Monmouth County, Ocean County, Middlesex County (south of the Raritan River), Mercer County except Hopewell Township

Division C is - Atlantic County, Cape May County, Camden County, Cumberland County, Gloucester County, Salem County

Last night the Mount Tabor Fire Department along with the Morris Plains Fire Department performed a joint drill utilizing the Johnson and Johnson parking garage standpipe system. Members were instructed by FDNY members on the proper use of standpipe operations, connections, and water flow management. Thanks to the Mount Tabor Fire Department for hosting the drill and good luck with your new firehouse.
