Preliminary Investigation:
On August 19, 2026, at approximately 8:55 a.m., Grundy County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the intersection of W. Gardner Road and S. Johnny Run Road in unincorporated Kinsman for a report of a two-vehicle traffic crash.
Upon arrival, deputies located Unit 2 in the ditch at the northeast corner of the intersection. The two occupants of Unit 2 had exited the vehicle and sustained minor injuries.
Unit 1 continued from the intersection and came to rest approximately 500 feet away after striking the southeast corner of a residence in the 6900 block of W. Gardner Road. Unit 1 subsequently struck the rear of Unit 3, which was parked in the driveway of the residence and was unoccupied.
The driver of Unit 1, Rosemary Bolding, of Huntley, was located inside the vehicle and sustained significant injuries. Bolding was pronounced deceased at the scene by Grundy County Coroner John Callahan.
The resident of the W. Gardner Road residence was home at the time of the crash but was not injured.
The preliminary investigation indicates Unit 1 was traveling northbound on S. Johnny Run Road and failed to stop at the posted stop sign before entering the intersection with W. Gardner Road. Unit 1 was subsequently struck by Unit 2, which was traveling eastbound on W. Gardner Road.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Mazon, Coal City, Braceville, and Verona-Kinsman Fire Departments, along with the Grundy County Coroner’s Office.
The crash remains under investigation by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction Unit and the Grundy County Coroner’s Office. No further information is available at this time.
