This weekend the Morris Police Benevolent Society sponsored our Morris Police Officers (some active an some retired-yes, that is retired Sergeant Monty Allbert in the mix) in a Charity Flag Football tournament in Yorkville. The event was held at Go For It Sports in Yorkville and all of the proceeds went to the implementation of a Special Olympics Flag Football Team. The Morris team, although smaller than the rest of the teams in attendance, was a force to be reckoned with. Winning their first game and taking an extremely talented, extremely large, and young Aurora PD team to the last play of the game. Fun was had by all, great memories were made, and a lot of money was made for a great cause. We cant wait to do it again next year!

Pictured below is (back row) Trevor Allbert, Officer Tyler Mayerhofer, Officer James Bell, Officer Jacob MacLean, Officer Tyler Bordner and (front row) Officer Alex Hernandez, Sgt. Monty Allbert, Officer Scott Evans, and Det. Trevor Hodge.

At the City Council Meeting on 10-20-25, Officer Nick Pampinella and civilian Jason Knapp of Glendale Heights were presented with awards for Bravery after their response to an incident at Stratton Park on August 2, 2025.

The Morris Police Department was dispatched to the Illinois River in reference to a subject having a mental health crisis. The subject had entered the river and began moving to open water. Officer Pampinella arrived on scene and made contact with the subject and attempted to negotiate his return to the bank. The subject began struggling to stay afloat.

Officer Pampinella, a former lifeguard, entered the river in the dark, and swam approximately 300 feet to the middle of the river. A bystander, Jason Knapp, joined Officer Pampinella. Knapp is an avid boater and has frequented the Illinois River for over 20 years. The two recovered the subject and swam him back to shore. The subject was transported to Morris Hospital with no physical injuries. Officer Pampinella changed into a dry uniform and finished the rest of his shift.

Mr. Knapp was awarded the Civilian Medal of Appreciation of the National Awards program of the American Police Hall of Fame for his commitment to support law enforcement and public safety.

Officer Pampinella was awarded the Silver Star for Bravery from the American Police Hall of Hame for "unselfish line of duty heroism, in which this law enforcement officer, at perilous risk to his own life, performed his duty in such a manner as to reflect courage, dedication, and initiative becoming to the profession of law enforcement officer."

Picture below is Morris Fire Protection and Ambulance District Chief Tracey Steffes (who was on scene during the incident), Officer Nick Pampinella, Jason Knapp, Mayor Chris Brown, Morris Police Chief Alicia Steffes.
