From the County Assessors Office -

It is imperative that you connect with us BEFORE tax bills go out about your exemptions. Ideally, your applications for any exemption you’re entitled to should be received by July 1 of the year prior!

‼️Let’s talk exemptions‼️

You have probably received your 2025 (payable in 2026) tax bills that the treasurer mailed out a couple weeks ago. We have been inundated with calls and visits about exemptions that taxpayers feel they are missing.

It is imperative that you connect with us BEFORE tax bills go out about your exemptions. Ideally, your applications for any exemption you’re entitled to should be received by July 1 of the year prior!

Example:
For the current year taxes- 2026 (payable in 2027) PLEASE have your applications in by July 1, 2026! We will always work with people the best we can to accommodate should something come up and you didn’t get your application in on time. However, to ensure you see that exemption on your tax bill it’s really important to get those apps in as soon as possible.

We are here to help and happy to help our taxpayers! 😀 Please call us or visit https://www.grundycountyil.gov/services/assessor/property_tax_relief.php to find out which exemptions you qualify to receive.

AND if you have a senior (65+) in your life, please, please, please help them and make sure they have all their exemptions!

We ❤️ and appreciate our taxpayers. Our staff is ready, willing, and able to guide you and answer any questions you may have. Let’s make sure you have all your exemptions (on time 😉) for 2026!

If you are unable to attend an observance in your community The National Moment of Remembrance, established by Congress, asks Americans, wherever they are at 3 p.m., local time, on Memorial Day, to pause in an act of national unity for a duration of one minute. The time 3 p.m. was chosen because it is the time when most Americans are enjoying their freedoms on the national holiday. The Moment does not replace traditional Memorial Day events; rather, it is an act of national unity in which all Americans, alone or with family and friends, honor those who died in service to the United States.

There are many local events in honor of Memorial Day, the Grundy County Veterans Assistance Commission encourages all to participate in an event near you.

The VA may cover the cost of emergency care received at a non-VA emergency department. However, eligibility and coverage depend on specific criteria set by the VA.

We encourage veterans and their families to review the VA’s guidelines ahead of time so you know what to expect if an urgent situation arises.

We’ve included a link below to the VA’s official page explaining how emergency care coverage works. Taking a few minutes to familiarize yourself now can help avoid confusion or stress later.

🧐Did you know?? There is a 24-hour triage nurse at Hines VAMC with whom you can discuss medical concerns, and receive guidance. Call 708-202-3800 to speak with a nurse 7 days a week.

If you think your life or health is in danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. You don’t need to check with us first. But if you go to a non-VA facility—even one that’s in our community care network—you must follow certain rules so that we can cover the cost of your care. ...
