And if you’re a tween or teen, be sure to mark your calendar for Thursday, September 10 from 5–6 PM. Wondering how you can earn community service hours at the library throughout the school year? We’ll go over all the ways you can get involved, help out, and earn those hours at our first T.A.G. program of the school year!

🎉 Bonus: Everyone who attends the program will earn 1 community service hour just for participating!

Whether you’re already a T.A.G. regular or you’re joining us for the first time, we’d love to see you there!

Friday, September 18, 2026 Movie starts at dusk

Good news! Our August Movies in the Park event that was postponed due to flooding has been rescheduled for Friday, September 18!

Join us at Goold Park and enjoy a movie under the stars. The movie will begin at dusk.

🎬 Enjoy an animated adventure featuring a clever fox and a determined bunny police officer!

Labor Day Closure Reminder!

Morris Area Public Library will be closed Monday, September 7, 2026 in observance of Labor Day. We’ll reopen and be ready to welcome you back on Tuesday, September 8 at 9:00 AM!

💡 Did you know? Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894. It was created to recognize and celebrate the contributions and achievements of American workers. So, while you’re enjoying the long weekend, take a moment to appreciate all the hard work that helps keep our communities going!

Have You Checked for Unclaimed Money?

Did you know the Illinois State Treasurer is currently holding more than $2.5 billion in unclaimed funds belonging to Illinoisans? These funds can come from forgotten bank accounts, insurance payments, utility deposits, uncashed checks, and more.

The State holds these funds until they’re claimed by the original owner or their heirs and there is no cost to claim your property with the proper identification.

Stop by the iCash table on Thursday, September 3, 2026 from 10AM-2PM in the library and see if you have unclaimed funds waiting for you! It only takes a few minutes to check.

🀄Introducing The Mahjong Society! 🀄

Mahjong is having a moment and we’re here for it! This classic tile-based game has been making a big comeback, bringing people together for a fun mix of strategy, skill, and social connection.

We’re excited to introduce The Mahjong Society, a new program at YOUR Morris Area Public Library where you can learn, play, and meet fellow Mahjong enthusiasts! Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced player, all skill levels are welcome.

🀄 Never played before? No problem! Our experienced Mahjong players will be on hand to teach you the basics and help you get started.

🧩 What is Mahjong? Mahjong is a tile-based game that originated in China and is traditionally played with four players. Players draw and discard tiles while working to create specific combinations, making it part strategy, part luck, and a whole lot of fun!

📅 Space is limited, and registration is required. Grab your spot and come see what all the Mahjong excitement is about!

Can you believe August is almost over? And as summer comes to a close, many of our regular programs will be taking a short break while we get ready for a brand-new season of events. Make the most of the last week of August and join us for our programs before the break!

Join us for our final Storytime in the Park of the year! Meet us at Chapin Park on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at 10AM and enjoy stories, songs, and a little outdoor fun before we wrap up our summer programming.

🎉 ¡Lotería! A Game of Luck, Laughter & Fun! 🎉

Join us for an all-ages game of Lotería, a traditional Mexican game of chance that’s similar to bingo but instead of numbered balls, players use colorful cards featuring fun images like La Sirena (the mermaid), El Sol (the sun), and El Catrín (the dandy).

Players mark the images on their boards as they’re called, and the first person to complete the winning pattern shouts “¡Lotería!” 🎉

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 All ages are welcome! Whether you’ve played before or this is your first time, come enjoy this fun, family-friendly game and maybe even learn a little along the way!
