Here’s an unfamiliar view. You’ll have to use the boiler room door to orient yourself. Where I’m standing when I took this picture there was a door to a small hallway, the boiler room door, a vent-filled closet and another door that led to the room that housed the telephone system and the heart of the building’s Ethernet network (you can still see the black hooks on the top back left that held all the blue cat5 cables). It was a small dark and musty room. Originally it was built with a great big window at the end. I wonder what it was used for back then? 🧐 while demoing it I found evidence of a small fire in the back corner by where the Ethernet cabinet was. Good thing almost everything is brick and plaster!

Morrisonville Elementary School Art Contest! We’ve got four finalists! Pick the winner! 🥇 While removing the lunch tables in the gym we found these four pieces of student artwork. Working on the lobby today we got a better look at the only original transom left in the building. It was boarded over and painted long ago during one of the remodels. This one is above the girls bathroom and still opens! When there were more windows downstairs, including in the bathrooms, the downstairs must’ve been an inviting place! We will be featuring transoms throughout the renovation 😊

Well done. John definitely earned this. Thank you John.

As many of you know, John Englesby died this past winter. Our Historical Society misses him greatly as he had a strong interest in the history of the DeForest area, as well as state history. As our Archivist-Curator, he dedicated countless hours volunteering, knew the collection from top to bottom, and was an amazing source of knowledge about our area's history.

We're pleased to invite you to honor John's legacy as our DeForest Area Historical Society gallery will be dedicated and named for him. The unveiling of the new name will take place on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the gallery area at the DeForest Area Public Library. The public is invited. Please join us!

Refreshments will be served in the Historical Society office following this brief event.
