Located at the Walters State Sevier County Campus, the Rel Maples Institute for Culinary Arts includes a 2,100 square-foot kitchen, bake shop, demonstration kitchen and dining rooms where students test their skills at catered events each semester. The Maples Institute was the first culinary institution in Tennessee to receive accreditation with the American Culinary Foundation Accrediting Commissi

on. The Rel Maples Institute for Culinary Arts, accreditated by the American Culinary Federation, prepares students for successful careers in food preparation, cooking, baking, kitchen or restaurant management and non-commercial food service. Students completing the Hotel and Restaurant Management concentration are qualified to work in entry-level management positions in the lodging, restaurant or food service industry. Our new $8.5 million state-of-the-art Culinary Arts facility
Opened, January 2008. Our goal at the Rel Maples Institute for Culinary Arts is to take our students' enthusiasm for cooking and turn it into an art form and then a life-long career. And nothing better serves as inspiration for our students and instructors in achieving
this goal than the life of our namesake, the late Rel Maples. The Rel Maples Institute for Culinary Arts is the only American Culinary Federation accredited post-secondary culinary program in the state of Tennessee.

The Walters State Food Truck will be serving hot lunches today (Oct. 4) at the Niswonger Campus in Greeneville. Help us spread the word!

Serving begins at 11 a.m. This is open to everyone. This free lunch is prepared and served by our Rel Maples Institute of Culinary Arts students.

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of one of our alumni. Cecil Curtis Anderson passed away April 20, 2023. Anyone that met Curtis will remember his booming voice and bright smile!
