For Yoga, we prefer sign up so we know how many to expect and so we can notify you if there's a schedule change, but you won't be turned away if you forget to sign up.

What's everyone reading this week? 📖 🎧

I'm about halfway through Taiwan Travelogue by Yáng Shuāng-zǐ, which is translated from the Mandarin Chinese by Lin King. I originally thought it might be a serious and difficult book because it has footnotes and is framed as a new translation of an older work by a fictional Japanese author who is basically writing a travel guide in the 1930s. So far, it's more about the relationship between the author and her interpreter as they eat their way across Taiwan. They also explore the different customs and complicated interactions between groups created by colonialism. It's very interesting, funny, and sweet. 😊

Estoy más o menos a la mitad de Taiwan Travelogue, de Yáng Shuāng-zǐ, traducido del chino mandarín por Lin King. Al principio pensé que quizá sería un libro serio y difícil porque tiene notas al pie y está presentado como una nueva traducción de una obra antigua escrita por una autora japonesa ficticia que, básicamente, está escribiendo una guía de viajes en la década de 1930. Hasta ahora, trata más bien sobre la relación entre la autora y su intérprete mientras recorren Taiwán comiendo de todo. También exploran las diferentes costumbres y las complicadas interacciones entre los distintos grupos creados por el colonialismo. Es muy interesante, divertido y dulce. 😊
