Soil Health Field Day! ๐Ÿ‚

We spent the day at Gianforte Farm learning about organic grain production, reduced tillage, value added and the tools farmers are using to keep improving their land and operations.

Thank you to Gianforte Farm, New York Soil Health, and all of our partners and attendees who made the day happen.

The Facts! ๐Ÿง

Organic Grain Production ๐ŸŒพ
Organic and specialty grains can help a farm build more flexibility. Adding grains into a rotation gives producers another crop to market and can help reduce the risk of relying too heavily on one product or season.

Reduced Tillage ๐Ÿšœ
Reduced tillage helps protect the soil by disturbing it less often. When soil structure stays intact, water can soak in more easily and there is less bare ground exposed to erosion.

Value Added Products ๐Ÿซ™
Value added products can help farms earn more from what they already grow. Instead of only selling a raw crop, producers can create products that reach new customers and keep more of that value connected to the farm.

New Technology in Organic Farming ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ
New tools can make organic farming more practical by helping farmers manage weeds with less soil disturbance. Equipment like roller crimpers, improved planters, and precision cultivation tools can support soil health while still helping crops compete.

We had to say goodbye to our interns. โ˜น๏ธ

We are grateful for the work, knowledge, and support they brought this summer. Anna spent the season supporting flower entomology scouting, while Tejas helped with farmers market surveys and research tied to agricultural economic development.

Thank you both for everything you've done!
