On May 14, 2026, the City’s vendor, CXT, delivered and installed the new 75,000-pound prefabricated restroom at Coleman Park. The restroom structure was transported from Texas and placed onsite using a crane.

Before the park reopens to the public, the City’s contractor, J Bruce Kies Construction, will complete surrounding concrete work and finalize site improvements, including landscaping and utility connections to the building. The City currently anticipates removing the construction fencing and reopening the park on Friday, May 22. However, the restroom itself will remain closed until PG&E completes its final electrical service inspection. City staff have been coordinating closely with PG&E throughout this process.

The City has been working toward improvements at Coleman Park since the previous restroom facility was demolished due to structural issues. Between 2021 and 2022, the City secured more than $700,000 in grant funding for the project. The project was later paused while staff focused on several higher-priority infrastructure initiatives.

The City would like to thank the City Council, community members, contractors, consultants, and City project team members who helped move the project forward.

Future improvements at Coleman Park are anticipated as part of a second phase of work tied to the Waterfront Master Plan process. Additional concept plans for the park will be developed and presented to the City Council for consideration as that planning effort moves forward.

For questions, please contact City Engineer Nate Stong at [email protected].
