Youth ages 13-19, join the WIA Teen Council, a youth volunteer organization, and make a difference in the community.

Walking In Authority Teen Council empowers teens (13-19) and their parents in Metro Atlanta to advocate for themselves, gain exposure to civic duty, and develop leadership skills in preparation to address community issues and to become agents of change. The programs and events focus on the following criteria: social/recreational, community awareness/ service, educational, leadership/ teamwork, and fund raising/ recruitment. This organization is very diverse and inclusive. A member enrolls if he or she will be 13 years old by March 1 of the current year. Membership shall be open to all eligible youth regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, and age, medical or handicapping condition. Teen Council members will gain leadership and public speaking, and organizational skills by planning, conducting and or participating in community activities. Teen Council members will support and encourage each other to participate in personal growth opportunities like career focus workshops, communicating orally and in writing seminars, and other educational opportunities. Teen Council members will encourage all community teens to learn more about the Walking In Authority Teen Council and encourage participation.

On October 17, 2026, WIATC partnered with the Gateway Restoration Church and the Forest Park Council Administration to honor the late Apostle Dr. Leon D. Beeler. WIATC members supported the communal fellowship service by managing event flow, welcoming/ushering guests, and distributing meals. We are truly grateful to all the organizers that helped commemorate Dr. Beeler’s profound civic contributions and lasting impact on our community. 🕊️

Walking in Authority Teen Council was honored to be invited to the Cardiovascular Summit on September 17, 2026. WIATC members had the opportunity to network with inspiring professionals, hear from distinguished speakers, learn more about cardiovascular health, and connect with others who are passionate about making a positive difference in our community. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and proudly represent our Council.

On September 16th, WIATC members were able to attend the Georgia Student Ambassadors Kickoff. They were able to learn more about Georgia’s election, state government and more about the competition as a whole. After the competition overview was completed students participated in an official tour of the State Capitol. We’re grateful for the opportunity to participate in this year's Student Ambassadors Program to grow in government literacy and civic engagement!

On August 28th and 29th 2026, WIATC attended the Thompson Chapel Anniversary Reception. Walking in Authority members had the opportunity to visit the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and learned about our history. The members assisted with serving drinks and food for the guest. During the Thompson Chapel Anniversary Event, the members had the opportunity to network, bond, and interact with the guest to grow their networking skills.

On August 19-22, 2026, The National Business League Conference hosted its 126th landmark governing summit for WIATC members to attend. This year’s ‘Book of AI’-themed multi-day event allowed our members to meet with business owners from different states and speak with high profile decision makers. In doing so, our youths learned the importance of AI integration in world trade, Pan african business/entrepreneurism, and Global marketing. We extend a huge thank you to all the leaders who made this year’s event a huge success!

On Saturday August 15, 2026, The city of Morrow held its annual Arte’ Gras Benefit Gala hosted by Arts Clayton at the Morrow Center in Morrow, Georgia. This Alice in Wonderland black-tie themed event featured live entertainment, fine dining, a raffle ticket saga, and a student Art Auction, where local government officials, business representatives, and educational leader attendees bided on original artwork created by our very own local Clayton County students. All monetary proceeds will go directly towards funding youth art programs. Thank you Arts Clayton and Morrow for such a wonderful opportunity!

During the summer, our teens participated in events affiliated to WIATC. However, some of our members took the initiative to branch out on their own. From a internships to QuestBridge Scholar to Grady TELP, our members did it all. We are so proud of our members and we can’t wait to see what they do next summer!
