As we enter into a season of warm weather storms, this is an excellent time for government agencies to prepare for how to handle the “recovery process” after a storm hits.

ORS/EMA recently hosted a two day Disaster Recovery Public Assistance training to gain greater knowledge of how to receive GEM/FEMA financial assistance in times of declared disasters. The class was well intended by emergency preparedness professionals from various Clayton County departments, CCWA, Hartsfield-Jackson and other metro Atlanta counties and stakeholders.

Senior Services recently hosted Splash Day at the Spivey Splash Park. In partnership with Clayton County Parks and Recreation, the annual day of water fun provides seniors a chance to enjoy the park on a day dedicated to them.

EMA came out to ensure everyone was properly prepared to spend a day in the sun and water. The final observation was a 100% FUN time!

Clayton County EMA recently participated in a three-day, night training exercise conducted by Clayton County Fire & Emergency Services. Members of the EMA team served as exercise evaluators and observers. The exercise focused on public safety readiness and was held in the parking lot of the new Morrow Arena. Other County public safety partners who also participated in the readiness training included CCPD and E-911/Dispatch. Morrow and Forest Park public safety personnel also took on an active role in the readiness exercise.

There were two training scenarios for safety personnel to respond to during the exercise. One scenario centered around an SUV plowing through a crowd leaving a FIFA Watch Party at the arena before losing control and crashing. The other scenario involved a potential explosive threat occurring in the parking lot as well. Community volunteers served as victims for the training exercise.

Clayton County Parks and Recreation celebrates 5 Splash-tastic years since the grand opening of the Spivey Splash Water Park. Nestled inside the Clayton County International Park located at 2300 Walt Stephens Rd., Jonesboro, GA 30236, the family-fun, friendly premier destination officially opens for its 2026 summer season on Sat., May 23, 2026, at 11 a.m. While the water park is usually closed on Mondays, Spivey Splash Water Park will open to the public on Memorial Day, which is Mon., May 25, 2026.
