This past week, six members of the Morton Grove Fire Department, Local 2178 proudly competed in the Firefighter Challenge League 2026 Season Opener Classic in Indianapolis. The Firefighter Challenge is often referred to as “the toughest two minutes in sports,” simulating the critical physical demands firefighters face on the job—climbing stairs with high-rise packs, hoisting hose, advancing charged lines, and performing victim rescues—all while in full gear. Events like this highlight the strength, endurance, and skill required to serve our community safely and effectively.

We would like to extend a special congratulations to Firefighter Adamczyk for earning recognition as the current Illinois state record holder in the individual run—an outstanding accomplishment that reflects dedication, discipline, and peak performance.

We are proud of all our members who competed and represented Morton Grove with professionalism and determination. Their commitment to training not only elevates their performance in competition but directly enhances their readiness to protect and serve our residents every day.

MGFD responded Saturday night to a challenging incident involving a partial structural floor collapse. Crews worked quickly to assess the situation, stabilize the structure, conduct searches, and assist with rescues to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Incidents like this require a coordinated effort, and we are extremely grateful for the rapid response and support from our neighboring departments, who assisted with stabilization, rescue operations, searches, and overall scene management.

We are proud to work alongside such dedicated professionals and are thankful to be part of the MABAS-Illinois network. The strength of this system allows departments to come together seamlessly during complex emergencies, ensuring our community receives the highest level of service and support. Thank you to all the agencies that responded and helped bring this incident to a safe conclusion.

This weekend, members of the Morton Grove Fire Department participated in the Hustle Chicago stair climb (formerly Hustle Up the Hancock) and brought home 1st Place 🥇 out of 80 teams!

With over 2,000 climbers participating and 94 floors to climb, this incredible event has a fundraising goal of more than $800,000 to support the Respiratory Health Association and its work in lung disease prevention, research, and clean air initiatives — a cause that hits close to home for firefighters.

We are honored to compete alongside so many dedicated first responders and supporters, and even more proud to help raise money for such an important mission.

Thank you to everyone who donated, cheered us on, and continues to support our department and the RHA. We climb for those who can’t.

Today marks a major milestone as four probationary firefighters officially completed their rigorous probationary task book, a process that spanned over one full year.

Throughout the year, these firefighters were put through four in-depth phases of training that included written examinations on SOGs, department policy, JPRs, tactics, and general fire service knowledge, along with demanding practical evaluations for each phase. Today’s final phase of testing culminated in the successful completion of the entire task book.

All four probationary firefighters passed and were proudly presented with their official firefighter helmet shields—symbolizing over a year of hard work, dedication, and commitment to the profession and our community.

Congratulations to FF O’Mahony, FF Ahlman, FF Denardis, and FF Wattleworth.

No longer candidates—welcome as firefighters.
