Due to the storm damage, the landscape waste site will be open to Morton residents beginning Fri., June 12, 2026 @ 7am at our Fourth/Broadway site. It will remain open daily from 7a - 7p until further notice.

Weather pending, work will begin on Tuesday morning, May 26, 2026 for a contractor to begin repairing Circle K's damaged sanitary sewer. Unfortunately, it is directly under the middle of Main St. just south of Jackson St. This work will last most of the week with pavement repairs to follow. Main St. will be closed to Southbound traffic just south of Jackson St. while this work is on-going. One northbound lane will remain open. All businesses will also remain open and will be accessible. Road closed signs and detour signs will be up and most local traffic should be able to navigate around this intersection. Thanks for your patience.

The Village of Morton utility office will no longer be providing change to any customer over $50 effective immediately. If you provide cash to pay for a utility bill or zoning permit, please use bills in a smaller denomination. For utility customers, we will apply any amount due back to you over $50 to your account if you prefer to not return with smaller bills.

We are making this change as we have significantly fewer payments made in cash and, therefore, have less cash on hand. Any delay in payment caused by the customer needing to return with smaller bills will not delay enforcement actions for late payments.

We have been notified by GFL that they were unable to complete the bulky item pickup for the route on Wednesday. So they are "playing catch-up" today. The Thursday bulky item pickup will be delayed today as they complete the route from yesterday.

Important Reminder: Proper Curbside Landscape Waste Disposal

As we move into the spring season, landscape waste tends to increase. GFL Environmental has reported an increase in improper curbside disposal of landscape waste. Failure to comply with the following requirements will result in your landscape waste NOT being collected.

· Acceptable items include: Grass clippings, leaves, small branches, and other organic materials

· Preparation: Place yard waste in paper bags, cans, or GFL issued totes.

o Paper bags require 1 landscape waste sticker per bag

o 32-gallon cans require 1 landscape waste sticker per can

o Cans greater than 32 & less than 95-gallons require 2 landscape waste stickers per can

o 95-gallon cans require 3 landscape waste stickers per can

· No plastic bags or non-yard waste items: These will NOT be accepted and totes containing these items will NOT be emptied!

Please make sure to dispose of your landscape waste on your regular collection day.

We will be doing a test of our tornado siren system at 4:00 pm. There was a malfunction with the system on Tuesday our normal test day. Repairs were made and the only way to make sure they are functioning properly is to set them off. It will run for a very short cycle and then we will cancel the alert. Please share this post to notify others.
