Morton Police Department does not have our own facility nor transportation to accommodate, nor do we have the funding to contract with a facility that manages the transport, intake, care and potentially long term housing of animals. Morton Police Department is a human services department, with no official Animal Control Unit. Please contact Lewis County Animal Control at 360.740.1290.
The City of Morton has a municipal Code specifically relating to dogs, and the police department is involved when the code needs enforcing, by way of citations/fines, and the potential for criminal charges. The Municipal Code offers a detailed definition of who the *owner is and who is responsible for the animal and any violations.
If you have a municipal code violation to report, you can submit a citizen complaint form to City Hall. IF you have been injured by an domestic animal, seek medical attention, whereas the hospital will notify law enforcement.
We desparately want to see animal ownership and its obligations be taken more seriously here in our community. But that means the PEOPLE must be more responsible and proactive in their ownership.
If you find you ae in need of a resource for an animal, I have obtained statewide lists - posted by Lewis County (see below). Additionally, I comprised a list that is a bit closer to Morton.
There are no guarantees, but, I hope some of this helps !!!

While we all welcome the GORGEOUS sunshine, please don't be fooled, because those nighttime temperatures are dropping below freezing level and making the roads very icey.
WE WANT YOU SAFE !!!
So, ENJOY the beautiful weather, but please drive sensibly , especially at night and in the earlest morning hours of heavy freeze.

The rain in our area has been relentless. Now, temperatures are dropping and the fluffy white is falling from the sky. Wind is blowing across frozen streets creates icy patches. If you must be on the roads, please drive carefully and remember,it is smart to be prepared in case you become stranded. Consider keeping a B.O.B. (Bug Out Bag), with you/in your vehicle at all times.

What is a B.O.B. (Bug Out Bag), you might ask ?? Here you go:

B.O.B. is a tote, backpack or bag of some sort that you can grab and take with you in case of emergency - full of items you may need. When making your B.O.B., focus on survival essentials, communication, illumination, tools, hygiene, documents and medications - all organized in you durable, easy-to-grab bag. It is suggested to have packed items to last you at least a 72-hour (or more), period of time:

โ€ข Water & Food: Gallons of water (rotate this after opening or yearly if unopened), non-perishable food (bars, trail mix, canned goods, can opener).
โ€ข First Aid & Health: Comprehensive kit, essential medications, hand sanitizer, wipes, backup glasses/contacts, epi pen.
โ€ข Warmth & Shelter: Blankets, ponchos, extra socks/layers, maybe a tarp or emergency tent, heavy duty black garbage bags.
โ€ข Tools & Safety: Flashlight (hand-crank/battery), multi-tool, whistle, flares, duct tape, heavy-duty gloves, jumper cables, basic tools.
โ€ข Communication & Power: Portable power bank, cell phone chargers & cords, weather radio (hand-crank/battery).
โ€ข Documents & Money: Copies of ID, insurance, cash (small bills), local maps (paper), medical and emergency numbers.
โ€ข Hygiene: Toothbrush, soap, TP & tissues, feminine hygiene products, wipes.
Bag & Organization:
โ€ข Container: Use a sturdy nylon bag or backpack to keep everything together and easily accessible.
โ€ข Labeling: Label items and note expiration dates on food/water.
โ€ข Rotation: Check and replace items like water, food, and batteries every six months.

Hope these ideas assist in your safety.

Hwy 12 is not pleasant at present time. Temperatures are dropping, the roads are beginning to freeze, snow/rain/sleet ... this pre-winter Mixed Precipitation is not forgiving at all. I will make a report on Hwy 7 in a couple hours.

Please feel free to post accurate up to date road information you have experienced in the past hour or so.
