Morton Junior High School Our excellent staff and advanced resources enable your children to become leaders of the next generat Every student has daily physical education.

Morton Junior High is a seventh and eighth grade junior high by name, but a middle school by philosophy. Seventh graders are divided into two teams and are assigned a core-teaching group consisting of a science teacher, a language arts teacher, a math teacher, and a social studies teacher. Eighth graders are divided up the same way and are assigned a similar core of teachers. Each student also has

two Encore classes they have for a nine-week time period. Students may also choose to participate in band, orchestra, or vocal music. A wide variety of extra-curricular activities, clubs, and organizations are offered.

On June 1st, it was announced that Illinois would not require school districts to observe Election Day in 2026. Therefore, the district is planning to amend the 2026-2027 calendar.

We will move the first day of teachers' institute to Tuesday, August 11, 2026, and the first student attendance day will be an early dismissal on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

Election Day on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, will be a day of student attendance. The board will officially approve the change at the July 14, 2026, board meeting. At that time, the updated calendar will be shared!

This allowed the purchase of three new cellos to be used here at MJHS.

Mr. Akers said, "the students have already started making wonderful music and are appreciative of this amazing gift!"

This year marks the third annual occurrence of GRAY GAMES! In each class, students compete against each other in course-content oriented games and accumulate points throughout the day. Teachers record scores each hour, and these three students earned 1st 2nd and 3rd place.

🥈Brinley Kellenberger - 51 points
🥉Kinley Birch - 49 points

The maximum amount of points one student could have earned was 60, so these students crushed it!
