Due to increased fire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 8 a.m. Friday, March 21 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within that 100 feet.

Please no outdoor burning! There is an increased fire danger due to dry vegetation and string wind gusts!

Due to low humidity, winds and dry vegetation, increased fire danger exists for most of the state. Postpone any outdoor burning, especially across the Mountains, Piedmont and Sandhills. If you do burn, check for local restrictions on open burning. Use extreme caution. Have a water source and phone nearby. Never leave a fire unattended.

Burn ban issued for 26 North Carolina counties due to hazardous forest fire conditions

Due to increased fire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits for the following North Carolina counties: Anson, Beaufort, Bladen, Brunswick, Carteret, Columbus, Craven, Cumberland, Duplin, Greene, Harnett, Hoke, Jones, Lee, Lenoir, Moore, New Hanover, Onslow, Pamlico, Pender, Pitt, Richmond, Robeson, Sampson, Scotland and Wayne.

The burning ban goes into effect at noon Monday, May 24, and will remain in effect until further notice.

EOW 2/20/21. We hate to announce about the loss of retired firefighter Reese Gainey. Reese was a member of our dept for roughly 30 years before retiring. He was an amazing firefighter and definitely a great mentor. He will be greatly missed by many and especially by our department. Please keep Reese’s family in your prayers in the coming day.

Morven Fire Department will be giving our candy tomorrow starting at 7:00pm! Anybody and everybody is welcomed to come by! We will be sat up in front of the Fire Department with our Engine and we will be there until the candy runs out! Y’all bring your kids on by tomorrow!
