Water leaks attribute to nearly ONE TRILLION gallons of water waste each year in the US. There are a number of places leaks may hide inside and outside of your home.

In the Laundry or Utility Room:

✔️ Look under any sink for pooling water under pipe connections

✔️ Look under your washing machine for pooling water, which may indicate a supply line leak

In your basement:

✔️ Check beneath the tanks for pooling water, rust, or other signs of leakage

And don't forget to go outside to check your spigots for tight connections!

Flushing anything but toilet paper could mean a pricey visit from a plumber to your home. This includes tampons and so-called flushable wipes. For municipalities, like Moscow Mills, the cleanup and maintenance cost is amplified.

According to the National Association of Clean Water Agencies, cities across the US shell out hundreds of thousands of dollars to millions annually for maintenance to remove clogs caused by wipes and other non-flushable materials.

An easy rule of thumb: If it isn't paper, don't flush it.

Annually, the City of Moscow Mills spends time unchoking lift stations and cleaning out the lagoon of items that are NOT disposable. Mayor Flannigan estimates that the city spends $75,000-$100,000 on avoidable expenses.

Here's how you can be part of the solution:

✔️ Flush-only toilet paper
✔️ Do not plant trees or bushes near sewer lines
✔️ Avoid putting fat, grease, and oil down the drain

We encourage all citizens to do their part at home and properly dispose of waste.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

Citizens in the City of Moscow Mills may experience less water pressure. The City is currently performing annual maintenance on the Highway U water tower, including painting the outside and coating the inside. The inside coating requires draining the tower, which may result in reduced water pressure. This may also cause an increased chlorine smell and momentary cloudiness from air pockets. This is not harmful, but may be noticeable during the duration of the project.

We thank you for your patience and understanding during this routine maintenance.
