John Bauer moved to the ground in 1976, the same year his parents purchased the 700 acres that contains the headwaters of Lake Creek, a tributary of Lake Coeur d'Alene north of Worley.

How long has Idler's Rest held a special place in your heart? What does spending time beneath the cedars, pines, and firs do for you? What makes this place a community treasure? We're all ears!

This September, we invite you to share your Love Letters to the Forest to celebrate Idler’s Rest’s designation as a Community Forest through the Old-Growth Forest Network (see our website for details on the September 19 event)! The community is invited to put their feelings for this special place into words. Poems, memories, thank-yous, tiny stories, woodland declarations of devotion: we'll take them all.

You can access the online submission portal via the link in our bio or head out to the preserve and leave your words on the poet-tree, located at the trailhead to Penstemon Path in the upper parking area beginning September 2.

Today's photo is from the March 6, 1980 Whitman-Latah Record publication, a regional newspaper that was in production for nearly a century between the late 1800s and 1985.

Jaime is attending the Idaho Nonprofit Conference in Boise this week alongside 350 nonprofit professionals doing good work across the Gem State. We are particularly struck by the power of this sector and nonprofit supporters to always unabashedly move forward, even when things are hard, in the face of competing needs, and when there are so many important issues and priorities vying for attention.

Thank you for supporting the lands we all love, and for moving forward with us to create the future we wish to see on the Palouse and across the entire region.

Did you attend LodgeFest this weekend at the Palouse Divide Nordic Ski Club? Over 600 folks turned out for an amazing inaugural event to celebrate the history, heritage, and future of the lodge.

And speaking of that future, the lodge needs YOUR input. Palouse Divide Lodge has been a mountain-top retreat and Nordic ski destination for more than twenty-five years, and before that a downhill ski destination for 60 years. Its owner is planning to retire, and a group of us are exploring whether the community can find a way to keep the lodge and land accessible, affordable, and protected for community use now and into the future.
