🎓 Congratulations to three incredible members of our team on some major milestones!

Deputy Moran graduated from the Idaho POST Academy, the state's basic law enforcement training program in Meridian focused on the foundational knowledge and practical skills required to serve as a law enforcement officer in Idaho. Notably, the POST Academy is only the second in the nation to receive accreditation from IADLEST, earning an Award of Excellence. Deputy Moran finished 2nd in class and earned the Fi****ms Possible award for achieving 100% marksmanship during fi****ms qualification. 🎯

Deputy Carnes graduated 1st in class from the North Idaho College Law Enforcement Academy, a POST-accredited program taught by approximately 45 local law enforcement experts across more than 60 topics, spanning classroom, mat room, field skills, and scenario-based training. The NIC academy holds the same rigorous standards as the state POST Academy, with curriculum tailored to reflect a North Idaho law enforcement experience. Finishing first in class is a remarkable achievement. 🥇

Congratulations also to Brianna, our Evidence Technician, Administrative Systems Coordinator, and Social Media Coordinator, who graduated from Leadership Moscow, a 9-month hands-on program designed to cultivate the next generation of community leaders in Moscow and Latah County. She becomes the 8th Latah County Sheriff's Office graduate of the program, joining alumni Chief Deputy Tim Besst, Captain Shane Anderson, Sergeant Kyle Gehrlein, Sergeant Chris Gilbertson, Sergeant Darren Duke, and Dispatch Supervisor Marci Williams. Brianna was also honored with the peer-nominated Stake in the Ground Award, recognizing exceptional personal and professional growth, and a demonstrated commitment to self-awareness, accountability, and leadership. A truly fitting honor. 🌟

We are so proud of all three of you. Your hard work and dedication reflect the very best of this department. Congratulations! 👏

Hey friends. A black bear has been spotted on the Troy Trail on the west side of Troy.

Please give it space. Do not approach, feed or befriend the bear. Even though it appears to be friend shaped, bears have their own ideas regarding personal space.

Choose wisely. We are here if you need us.

On June 5, 2026, the Latah County Sheriff’s Office in coordination with the Idaho State Brand Inspectors Office, Idaho State Vet and Latah County Horse Posse seized 66 horses pursuant to a search warrant at a residence on Honeysuckle Lane outside of Kendrick, Idaho.

The investigation into animal neglect has been ongoing over the last 7 months and is continuing. We will provide more details when possible. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the volunteers of the Latah County Horse Posse, otherwise this would not have been possible.

Every 6 seconds (probably), someone in Idaho gets a threatening text about unpaid traffic citations or a warrant and immediately panics. We get it. It sounds official. It feels urgent. It has an official looking link. If you owe the courts something like your money or your presence, they will stuff a paper into an envelope and mail it to your residence like its 1987.

Delete the text. Touch some grass. We are here if you need us.
