Genesee Commercial Area Cultural Resource Survey and Inventory

This notice is being provided as a courtesy to inform property owners and interested parties that the Latah County Preservation Commission in partnership with 5/4 Architecture, PLLC is conducting a historic building/cultural resource survey in the Genesee Commercial Area, in collaboration with the Latah County Historical Society and the Idaho State Historic Preservation Office. Consultants from 5/4 Architecture, PLLC will be walking throughout the area recording information about existing buildings to determine their style, age, and character-defining features. The project also involves updating the State’s existing historic survey information for the area.

Historic surveys are essential to understanding the architectural history and significance of an area. This project will enhance our understanding of the building history and current status of existing resources in Genesee. Surveyed buildings will not be additionally regulated as a direct result of the survey, but the information may be used to approach property owners with outstanding historic resources about benefits of a National Register or City Landmark historic listing. The survey information may also be used as a baseline for future planning efforts. The survey work will occur throughout April and May 2026.

Please note that the consultants will complete their survey work and documentation from the public right-of-way, and do not require admittance onto your property.

For questions or further information on this project you may contact Hayley Noble, Latah County Historical Society Executive Director [email protected]. Shannon Sardell is the principal of 5/4 Architecture, PLLC and is also available at: [email protected]

The survey project and this mailing has been funded with the assistance of a matching Certified Local Government Grant from the Idaho State Historic Preservation Office and the Historic Preservation Fund administered by the National Park Service.

We had the pleasure of listing the The Pie Safe Bakery & Kitchen for the National Register of Historic Places in 2024! We love adaptive reuse of historic buildings like this example in Deary!
