When Botany meets Culinary Arts, learning gets interesting!

Students in Mrs. Amanda Danis’ Botany classes recently teamed up with Chef Chadwick Smith’s Culinary Arts students for a hands-on lesson that definitely gave them something to talk about! Students had the opportunity to taste-test pickled kelp harvested in Juneau, Alaska, while learning about conservation and responsible use of natural resources. And judging by the reactions, the kelp earned some mixed reviews!

The lesson continued as students examined a variety of fruits and vegetables, including some they may not see every day, to identify which parts of the plants are edible and explore why foods are categorized the way they are in grocery stores and by the USDA. This is what we love to see: teachers working across subject areas to turn classroom concepts into hands-on experiences students will remember!

Great job, Mrs. Danis, Chef Smith, and students!

The September issue of Tech Times is here!

There’s a lot happening at the Moss Point Career & Technical Education Center and this month’s newsletter highlights just a few of the ways our students are learning, serving, and gaining real-world experience. Inside this issue:

- We celebrate the Rotary Club of Moss Point’s 99th anniversary and the role our Culinary Arts and Welding students played in making the luncheon special.
- Our Culinary Arts students put their hospitality skills to work during the kickoff of the Levitt AMP Moss Point Music Series.
- Moss Point FFA launches a brand-new Fishing Club, giving students another way to connect agriculture, conservation, and outdoor recreation.
- Our Business Marketing & Finance students gain practical financial knowledge through a hands-on banking lesson with Mr. Mark Amos of Hancock Whitney Bank.

We’re proud of the opportunities our students continue to receive both inside and outside the classroom and we’re thankful for the community partners who help make those experiences possible!

Bringing Real-World Financial Education into the Classroom!

Today, our Business, Marketing & Finance students had the opportunity to learn directly from Mr. Amos of Hancock Whitney Bank during a hands-on lesson focused on personal finance and banking.

Students explored topics such as banking products and services, managing expenses, building an emergency fund, financial responsibility, and making smart decisions with their money. Experiences like this help students connect what they are learning in the classroom to situations they will face in everyday life.

A special thank you to Mr. Amos and Hancock Whitney Bank for investing time in our students and helping prepare them for financial independence and future success!

This is what CTE is all about! Connecting the classroom to the real world!

Celebrating 99 Years of Service!

Today we had the privilege of hosting the Rotary Club of Moss Point for a special luncheon celebrating 99 years of service to our community!

Our Culinary Arts students helped make the occasion extra special by preparing and serving a delicious meal, while our guests enjoyed fellowship, reflections, and a celebration of Rotary’s long-standing commitment to Moss Point.

Events like this give our students the opportunity to put their classroom skills into action while connecting with the community they serve. We are grateful to the Rotary Club of Moss Point for allowing us to be part of this milestone celebration.

Congratulations on 99 years, Rotary Club of Moss Point! Here’s to a century of Service Above Self!

CTE in the Community!

This past Saturday, our Culinary Arts students—Chef Bryson Bell, Chef Alisia Bello, and Chef Maria Holmes put their skills to work at the kickoff of the 2026 Levitt AMP Moss Point Music Series at Riverfront Park!

Our students were invited by the Moss Point Main Street Moss to host the hospitality room, or “Green Room,” for Nashville-based band Parker Barrow. This gave them another opportunity to take what they are learning in the classroom and apply it in a real-world hospitality setting while serving our community.

We’re proud of these students for representing Moss Point with professionalism and Tiger pride!

A big thank you to Moss Point Main Street Association for continuing to create opportunities for our students to learn, serve, and connect with the community.

CTE in the news!

The high school vocational centers of the past are long gone, but the mission of preparing high school students for future careers has never been stronger. And as they say, if you aren’t first, you are last, and there can only be one first place winner.
