Students at Magnolia Middle School in the Moss Point Career and Technical Education Center’s 6th grade cyber foundations class kicked off River Heroes Academy by exploring how water connects our neighborhoods, rivers, wildlife, birds, and Gulf.

Working in teams, students tackled watershed challenges, weighed possible solutions, and saw how one decision can make a difference downstream.

That’s River Heroes: learn it, solve it, act on it.

🌊 FROM LEARNING ABOUT CONSERVATION TO MAKING A DIFFERENCE!

Moss Point Aquaculture students are bringing environmental learning to life through STREAM: Students Tackling Runoff, Ecology, Aquaculture, and Microplastics, a Pascagoula River Audubon Center program that connects classroom learning with hands-on conservation experiences.

Their job-shadowing project in collaboration with the Walter Anderson Musuem of Art brings together science, art, water stewardship, and community as students create colorful storm-drain murals showing how runoff can travel to our rivers, bayous, and the Gulf.

This is where learning becomes action. Through STREAM and River Heroes Academy, students can build their understanding of healthy rivers and habitats, investigate real environmental challenges, and begin discovering the many careers connected to conservation, aquaculture, water quality, wildlife, restoration, and other Gulf Coast industries.
Learn the science. Take action. Discover where it can lead.

Meet PRAC’s newest River Heroes!

One thoughtful choice can help keep Ospreys soaring above our Gulf Coast rivers.

At the Levitt Music Series at the Moss Point Riverfront, neighbors of all ages joined PRAC’s River Heroes experience. They answered fun questions about the river, chose an action, added their promises to our River Heroes board, and proudly earned their badges.

Their promises included reducing litter, conserving water, fishing responsibly, protecting wildlife, and caring for river habitat. These actions help sustain healthy waterways for Ospreys and other birds that depend on our rivers for food.

River Heroes turns curiosity into conservation action, one promise at a time.

🌟 Intern Spotlight: Weatherby George 🌟
This summer, we were fortunate to have Weatherby George serve as our Seasonal Coastal Field Instructor at the Pascagoula River Audubon Center.
Throughout the season, Weatherby was a dedicated member of our team, supporting conservation education programs, assisting with summer camps, and helping with countless tasks that kept our programs running smoothly. Her enthusiasm for environmental education and passion for connecting children with nature made a positive impact on our campers, families, staff, and volunteers.
As Weatherby begins her next chapter, we want to thank her for her hard work and the contributions she made to our mission of protecting birds and the places they need today and tomorrow. We wish her continued success in all that lies ahead! 💙

🐞🌿 Nature Tots: Bugs! 🌿🐞
Can you find the bug in this picture? Come explore with us on August 12th, at the Moss Point Riverfront Welcome Center on Main Street for a morning of nature discovery and fun. For directions or questions, please email [email protected].

This ambush bug is sitting quietly on butterfly w**d (Asclepias tuberosa), blending in with the flowers so well that it's easy to miss! Ambush bugs are masters of camouflage and can often be found on goldenrod, coneflowers, and other native flowering plants at the Pascagoula River Audubon Center.

At this month's Nature Tots, little explorers will discover the amazing world of bugs and other tiny creatures. We'll learn how insects use their colors, shapes, and special adaptations to survive, and practice our nature detective skills while exploring outdoors.

💙 A huge thank you to TSgt Freeman and her Flight from Keesler Airforce Base for spending the day volunteering at the Pascagoula River Audubon Center!
The power of teamwork was truly astounding. Fourteen dedicated volunteers put in five hours of hard work, accomplishing what would have taken one person nearly two weeks to complete. From trimming trails and staining signs and picnic tables to moving furniture, their efforts made an incredible impact across our center.
Thank you for giving back to the environment and helping us protect the birds and the places they need today and tomorrow. Your service, teamwork, and commitment to our community are deeply appreciated. We couldn't have done it without you! 🐦💪

Thank you to the INFINITY Science Center for inviting the Pascagoula River Audubon Center to participate with an outreach table at your STEM Fest event. We appreciate the opportunity to connect with the community, share our conservation mission, and engage visitors in protecting birds and the places they need today and tomorrow.
