FUN FRIDAY: CONNECTIONS AT LCSS!
There was a LOT happening at LCSS today…and quite a bit of learning cleverly disguised as Fun Friday.
Our first Fun Friday of the school year was JAM-PACKED with our Blue Jays moving, creating, communicating, problem-solving, laughing, and learning a little more about one another along the way.
CODING…WITHOUT A COMPUTER?! Our teachers introduced students to coding and directional language through hands-on activities adapted for each age group. At one point, K-1 had to verbally guide Mrs. Bryant to the Blue Jay using commands like walk forward, turn left, stop! It was hilarious, but it was also a fantastic way for our youngest students to discover just how clear and precise instructions have to be!
Students also headed outside with Coach Taylor for special Fun Friday PE time. Fresh air, movement, friends, and a chance to burn off some Friday energy? YES PLEASE.
Ms. Woodruff hosted her always-popular art class with our 6th-8th graders. Students partnered up, learned each other’s favorite animal, and then came the twist: instead of painting their own favorite, they created a watercolor of their partner’s favorite animal and exchanged their artwork at the end.
Mrs. Elkabetz’s 2nd-3rd graders turned observations from their classroom monarch caterpillar habitats into charts and real-world data. Apparently our caterpillars have officially joined the teaching staff. MONARCH MATH!!
Ms. Mak’s 4th-5th graders, with Mrs. Curry today played, Would You Rather? And Two Truths and a Lie while practicing how to respectfully share their choice, listen to others, and find connections even when people are different.
Then Mrs. Roberts joined in. And THAT is when things got interesting.
We learned that Mrs. Roberts has been shark fishing before. The kids also uncovered some rather useful information about how she feels about…frogs. Mrs. Roberts, you may want to keep an eye on Ella. She appeared to be filing that information away for future use.
ONE MORE things to celebrate today, Mrs. Susie Smith shared some pretty amazing news from our library! When our LCSS library was created last school year, we started with just a small collection of books. Thanks to the incredible generosity of those who have donated and helped us build it, our library has now grown to more than 900 books!
From coding and monarch math to art, PE, new friendships, lots of laughter, and a library that just keeps growing, our first Fun Friday of the year was a pretty fantastic reminder of what happens when our school community learns, creates, and grows together. Judging by those smiles, we’d say Connections at LCSS was a pretty great way to kick off Fun Friday!
