As recovery efforts continue, some homeowners will notice mold/mildew after flooding. Here's some helpful information from the Surry County Health and Nutrition Center

Fees are no longer a barrier for those impacted by the recent floods.

In order to ease the burden on our citizens affected by this natural disaster:

Fees for water testing and inspection fees for building permits and trades permits for damage caused by the flash flood and rain event on Saturday, Aug. 1 and Sunday Aug. 2, 2026 are now being waived by Surry County Government.

In order to qualify, applicants must fill out a damage assessment questionnaire with the Surry County Office of Emergency Management. The damage must be documented by the County and have been caused by the flash flood and rain event on August 1 and 2.

Inspections permit fee waivers will apply to existing structures and not new additions or new structures, unless the new structure is for replacement of a structure lost in this disaster.
