Surry County Veteran Services is a county organization. We have 3 fully accredited Veterans Service Officers and 1 administrative assistant.

We advocate for Veterans and their families to assist them in obtaining all VA and state benefits. The mission of Surry County Veterans Service is to pursue a high quality of life for local veterans, their families and their survivors. We advocate for veterans of Surry County and their families by assisting them in obtaining all federal VA and state benefits to which they are legally entitled. Mt. Airy VFW is sponsoring a trout tournament here in Mt. Airy on Oct. 17th 2026. Registration will be at Veteran Park and will begin at 8 am till 3 pm. This is a big fish tournament for all ages. Please see attached flyer for more details.

We are seeing many veterans calling or coming in with these post cards they are getting in the mail concerning a NC Veteran Saving Program. We have been told by the NC Department of Military and Veteran Affairs that this is a scam and to be aware. Any questions or concerns, please call our office at 336-783-8820.

If you are a veteran, spouse or family member of a veteran, we encourage you to come out to our town hall this Saturday from 9-12 am at the Surry County Service Center in Dobson. We will have a biscuits and coffee, provided by the Surry County Veterans Council. We will be discussing VA benefits to include but not limited to, compensation disability, pension, death pension and DIC (survivor’s benefits), and VA health care to name a few. Even if you are already drawing VA benefits, we still encourage you to come out and see if there are any new benefits or maybe be able to expand the benefits you currently have. Hope to see you Saturday and if nothing else, come get a free biscuit.
