June is National Safety Month! 🚒

As firefighters, we know that safety isn't just a rule—it's a way of life. Whether you're on the job, at home, or tackling a weekend project, remember these simple safety tips:
✅ Wear the right PPE—and wear it correctly.
✅ Use tools properly and treat them with care.
✅ Keep work areas clear of loose cords, clutter, and debris to prevent trips and falls.

A few extra minutes spent working safely can prevent injuries that last a lifetime.

Stay alert, stay prepared, and make safety your mission this June!

Our firefighters recently completed wildland fire training to sharpen their skills and prepare for the upcoming fire season. Training like this helps ensure crews can safely and effectively respond to wildfire incidents while protecting lives, property, and natural resources.
Remember, creating defensible space around your home is one of the best ways to help protect your property during wildfire season.

It has been an absolute pleasure and honor to serve you as firefighter, EMR, and Public Information Officer (P.I.O.). Firefighting is a "young persons sport" and I turned 71 on May 8th; Ouch!

Since the day Tom Cantu knocked on my door with Chris Bochsler as his get-away driver it has been a great run and a childhood dream come true for me.

Terri and I moved here 10 years ago from Lake Oswego and our "family" at MAFD has been there for us in the best of times and at the worst day of our lives. We are forever in debt to the department and to you who came to our rescue the day of and months after our daughter died. Without your help I promise you that I wouldn't be here today. Thank you.

I'll still be hanging around on social media of my own and living in Mt Angel. Thanks for the warning, right?

If I can ever be of help to you please contact me and I'll do my best.

Until we meet again, I wish you good fortune!

Firefighter John here and you're looking at a REAL HERO. His name is Tim with NW Natural. Tim arrived at our home today to replace a gas meter. While here he gave us a FREE inspection. The new gas insert and gas stove checked out ok. Next, he checked his handheld meter near the hot water tank. Bad leak....as in DANGEROUS!
He pulled out a wrench and the problem was solved. Needless to say, Tim is on our Christmas list. Thanks, my friend!

The Oregon Oregon State Fire Marshal Upstaffing Grant continues to make a meaningful difference for our districts and our community.

Through our partnership with the Monitor Fire District, we’ve been able to combine grant funding to expand coverage across both districts. This collaboration allows us to increase daytime staffing when volunteer availability is most limited and provide a stronger, more consistent response throughout our shared service area.

That added coverage helps ensure we can respond quickly and effectively, whether it’s a fire, a medical emergency, or another urgent call for service. In small communities like ours, response time matters, and this grant plays a critical role in bridging that gap.

We are grateful for the continued support from OSFM and their investment in rural fire agencies across Oregon, and for the opportunity to work alongside our partners at Monitor to better serve our communities.

MOUNT ANGEL, Ore. (KOIN) – The Oregon State Fire Marshal is awarding nearly $6 million in grant funding to fire districts across the state to help with staffing ahead of fire season. Among the clos…

🚒 Today is International Firefighters’ Day — May 4th.
At MAFD, we want to say a huge THANK YOU to every firefighter who answers the call... day or night... to protect our community and help those in need. Whether you’re career, volunteer, part time, or retired, your dedication and service make all the difference.
This day also honors the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while answering that call. We remember them, we honor them, and we carry their legacy forward.
To our MAFD family.. past, present, and future, thank you for always being ready. We’re proud to serve with you.

🔥 Exciting News from Mt. Angel & Monitor Fire District!
We are proud to announce that both Mt. Angel and Monitor Fire District's have been selected as a recipients of the 2026 OSFM Wildfire Season Staffing Grant!
This grant is a game changer for rural districts like ours, providing critical funding to get our structural firefighters on wildfire incidents early — before they have a chance to grow into a much larger, more costly response.
A huge thank you to the Oregon State Fire Marshal's Office for their continued investment in local fire service and their commitment to protecting Oregon communities. We are honored to be selected and look forward to putting these resources to work for the safety of our community this wildfire season.
Stay tuned for more updates as we head into the 2026 fire season. As always, Mt. Angel Fire District remains committed to protecting the lives and property of those we serve. 💪🚒

LIGHT THE NIGHT FOR FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS
We invite you to light up red on April 26 - May 3, 2026 to honor the fallen and their families.

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation launched Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters in 2017 to commemorate the Foundation’s 25th anniversary. Held annually during the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, this tribute has grown to include fire departments, families, and communities across the country lighting their homes and buildings in red to honor fallen firefighters.
