New, inexperienced beekeepers please READ!!!!!!! Please do not tell someone they have honey bees UNLESS you are 100% sure they honeybees. I have fielded 10 calls from people telling me that their BEEKEEPING friend said they have honey bees. Please make sure that you ask the following questions:
1. What color are they? If they are yellow and black 99.9% they are a Yellow Jacket or a Wasp.
2. Where are they located? If the person calling states they are living in the ground 99.9% they are Yellow Jackets, bumble bees, mining bees or solitary bees.
3. Can you please send a photo of your bees and send it to me? This will help eliminate the use of gas driving out to the person's home just to find out they anything else besides a honey bee.
It is very nice to talk to everyone one of these folks regarding trying to save what they think are honey bees. But they become very disappointed when I have to tell them they have anything else but honey bees.
