Mount Carroll Fire Department

Mount Carroll Fire Department Our dedicated team of volunteer firefighters proudly service the Mount Carroll Fire Protection distr

Becoming a volunteer firefighter requires extensive training, hard work and dedication to the community. Smaller communities rely on volunteer firefighters to respond quickly to emergencies, to perform firefighting duties and to provide assistance and support to other local emergency agencies. Although volunteer firefighters receive little to no monetary compensation for their efforts, the chance

to aid and serve the community is an extremely rewarding experience. Our usual roster size is a group of 25-30 individuals willing to risk their lives 24/7 to protect the Mt Carroll Fire protection district. We are currently equipped with two engine pumpers, three tankers - including one 4x4, two brush rigs, one rescue rig, one personnel vehicle and a portable pump.

⚠️ Weather Alert Extreme Cold⚠️

Based on information from the National Weather Service, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office is advising residents that dangerously cold conditions are expected from late Thursday night through Saturday morning.

Wind chills could reach as low as 40° below zero, with frostbite possible on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.

Residents should limit time outdoors, dress in warm layers, cover exposed skin, and ensure pets and livestock have proper shelter. Please check on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone who may need assistance. If travel is necessary please make sure your vehicle is winter-ready and carry emergency supplies.

These conditions can be life-threatening. Stay informed, stay warm, and stay safe.

Make sure your home is safe during this weekend's frigid temperatures. Snow and ice can block exhaust pipes, as shown in this photo, which can prevent carbon monoxide from venting properly. If your exhaust pipes look like this or are clogged in any way, clear them immediately to protect your home and family.
