As Fire Chief of the Mount Clemens Fire Department and President of the Macomb County Fire Chiefs Association, I extend my deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and fellow colleagues of Wildland Firefighter Emily Barker, a resident of Clinton Township, who tragically lost her life in the line of duty this week.
Firefighter Barker dedicated her life to one of the most demanding and dangerous professions. Her service required extraordinary physical endurance, unwavering courage, and a steadfast commitment to protecting others—often under the most challenging and hazardous conditions. Her sacrifice serves as a solemn reminder of the risks firefighters willingly accept each day in service to their communities.
The loss of Firefighter Barker is deeply felt throughout the firefighting community across our nation, and especially here in Macomb County, where her family, friends, and community grieve this unimaginable loss. We honor her dedication, her selfless service, and the legacy she leaves behind. Her courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten, and her memory will continue to inspire generations of firefighters to come.
